South of England CC 2016: Young Athletes

Parliament Hill never fails to provide oceans of mud and this day was no exception with heavy rain the previous night adding to the already saturated course. Our 8 young athletes found it tough to say the least.

On a positive note young 12 year old Liam Waldron ran the race of his life. Unlike many of his rivals he just sped through the mud without any discomfort to place an excellent 70th from a starting field of close to 280. Liam’s run gave him 7th Essex athlete, only 17 seconds behind the 2nd lad from Essex. This performance would have most likely got him a top 6 in the Met League.

Unlike Liam, Sidnie Ward found the conditions difficult, not helped by the fact lad is suffering from a Haglunds Deformity. Although in pain throughout the race he never gave up, crossing the line in 81st place. Great credit to the lad.

The other runners found the heavy going not to their liking, but we must praise the following youngsters who turned up, gave it a good go and I am proud of each and everyone of them.

Under 13 boys Rhys Edwards 199th

Under 13 girls Hollie McArdell 253rd

Under 17 Men Harry Cavell 120th

Under 15 boys Joe Geller 186th

Under 15 girls Siena Taylor 165th

We had many runners absent for various reasons, which meant that we had no teams in any of the races. On a more positive note we have many Under 11s who just cannot wait for these sort of races. Maxwell Chinn, Jimmy Geller, Luca Gormely, Holly Hudson, Hollie Mills and Bronya Overington will be names to watch out for in the future.

Lets hope our final Met League provides us with a better turnout but in the meantime well done again for all who did run and flew the Woodford flag.
