Medals galore for Woodford youngsters at Essex T&F Championships

Saturday 10th May (Day 1) 

WGEL Young Athletes took to the Track & Field of Chelmsford AC for the two days Essex Championships 2025 and what a weekend it was, medals raining down from all ages and events. 

In the Under 13 boys Leo Ciarlet and Idris Bernard ran in heat 1 of the 75m hurdles. Leo came 2nd in: 14.51sec and Idris was 3rd in 16.06sec. In the final Leo claimed a SILVER with a PB time of: 14.33sec and Idris was 7th in: 15.79sec and a PB. In the 100m Idris in heat 1 was 5th in: 15.63sec (PB), Blake Edwards was 1st in Heat 2 in a new (PB) time of: 13.50sec with Joel Forder 5th in a (PB) of 15.74sec. Blake however, due to injury was unable to take part in the final. He did however do the long jump and won silver with: 4m 93cm and Leo Ciarlet was 10th: 3m 63cm. The 800m saw Henry Richards claim the silver medal with a PB of 2m 21.92secs.

Ashton Jokhiya was 6th: 2m 32.08sec (PB), Jack Tonge: 2min 39.67sec (PB) and 7th, while Joel Forder was 12th with: 2m 59.63sec (PB). The under 13 girls 70m hurdles saw Rosie Anderson finish 3rd in heat 2 with a PB of 12.39sec and Kehanique Lowe was 7th in 12.96sec, and Sarah Ramdane was 7th in heat 1 with 16.78sec (PB). Rosie went on to place 2nd and gain silver in the final with a another PB of 12.22sec.

In the short sprints, Rosie was 3rd in heat 1: 14.27sec (PB), Lara Watson was 5th: 15.78sec (PB), Sarah Ramdane in heat 3 was 5th: 16.69sec (PB) and Ella Roberts was 2nd in heat 4 with: 13.98sec (PB). In the semi-final Ella was 3rd with: 14.03sec and Rosie was 5th: 14.21sec. The final saw Ella finish 6th with: 14.02sec and Rosie was 7th: 14. 30sec.In the timed 800m's there were 7 Woodford athletes taking part. Grace Cherry was 3rd for BRONZE with: 2m 33.62sec, Lottie Oates was 4th: 2m 36.43 (SB), Chloe Ward: 2m 40.48sec (PB) and 5th, Phoebe Quorn 7th: 2m 46.33 (PB), Sarah Ramdane was 11th: 2m 55.09 (PB), Maia Lalani 12th: 2m 57.88sec (PB) and Jessica Cole: 3m 01.61sec (PB) for 13th place. In the high jump Daisy Whelan was equal 4th place with: 1m 25cm, Phoebe Woods 6th: 1m 20cm (SB), and Jessica Cole was 7th with: 1m 15cm (PB). Chloe Ward also competed inthe shot putt and was 8th with: 3m 87cm (PB). 

The U15 boys had more brilliant performances. In the 80m hurdles, Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland won gold with a PB of 10.98sec and again lowered his club record. Toby Taylor was 3rd with a new PB of 12.03sec for bronze.

In the 100m heats Lawrence Foster ran in heat 1 and 1st with: 11.42sec (PB), Nathaniel Sandy was 3rd: 12.03sec (PB), Alex Osagie in heat 2 was also 1st: 11.36sec (SB) and Tyler Reynolds in heat 4 was 1st: 11.95sec (PB) and Laurent Rio Modeste was 4th: 12.25sec (SB). In the semi-finals Alex Osagie was 1st in SF1: 11.61sec and Tyler Reynolds 2nd: 11.96sec. In SF2, Lawrence Foster was 1st: 11.62sec, Nathaniel Sandy, 4th: 12.06sec and Laurent was 5th: 12.28sec, all of them qualified for the final. In the final Alex Osagie came home in gold position with: 11.33sec (PB), Lawrence won SILVER: 11.38sec (PB), Tyler Reynolds was just outside the medals with 4th: 11.81sec (PB), Nathaniel Sandy 6th: 12.25sec and Laurent Rio Modeste was 8th: 12.50sec. In the 1500m Eric Frith was 8th in a new PB time of: 4m 56.16sec, while Josiah Franklin was 5th in a straight final with a time of: 42.56sec (PB). Tyler Reynolds claimed gold in the long jump with a leap of: 5m 68cm, while in the pole vault it was a 1,2,3 with Okkie Lee claiming gold with 2m 60cm, Tayo Adetona silver with 2m (PB) and Daniel Hayden bronze with 1m 50cm (SB).

In the U/15 Girls Isabella Moulton was also in fine form with the 75m HURDLES. She ran 11.52sec (PB) for 1st in heat 3 with Tyleah Edwards 2nd in: 13.03sec (PB), while Rosie Muffett was 6th in heat 2: 15.01sec (PB). In the final Isabella won GOLD in a new PB time of: 11.32sec and Tyleah was 8th in: 12.77sec (PB).The 100m's was a race that Joy Larinde excelled at and in heat 1 she set a new PB time of: 12.56sec, Dorcas Oringa was 6th: 13.96sec (SB), in heat 4 Cleopatra Drake was 1st: 12.78sec (PB), Chanae Andrews was 3rd: 13.29sec (PB).The semi-final Joy continued where she left of in the heats with: 12.14sec (PB) for 1st in SF2 and Cleopatra was 3rd in a new PB time of: 12.75sec with Chanae was 7th in SF1 with: 13.61sec. Joy in the final finished with a SILVER medal: 12.40sec and Cleopatra was 4th: 13.01sec. In the 300m, Tyleah Edwards was 3rd in heat 1 with: 44.13sec, Ava O'Neal was 5th: 50.78sec (PB) and Faith Franklin was 2nd in heat 2: 44.02sec (PB). Tyleah finished 4th in the final with:43.55sec (SB) and Faith Franklin was 5th: 43.80sec (PB). Jemimah Ramchurn was 4th in the 1500m with: 5m 07.34sec (PB). Isla Barron took part in two field events. In the Hammer she was 5th with a new PB distance of: 23m 60cm and in discus she was 4th with: 21m 61cm and a (PB). High Jump Isabella Moulton won SILVER with a new PB height of: 1m 50cm and Phoebe Whelan won BRONZE: 1m 45cm. 

The under 17 women saw Evanna Eze finish 1st in heat 1 of the 100m: 12.20sec, Shalom Prince was 3rd: 12.68sec (SB) and Annabella Drake was 4th: 12.77sec (PB) with Habiba Tijani in heat 2: 12.85sec and 3rd (PB). In the final Evanna claimed GOLD in a time of: 12.31sec, Shalom Prince was 4th: 12.79sec, Habiba Tijani 6th: 12.88sec and Annabella Drake was 7th: 12.95sec. The ladies in the 300m showed their class with yet another 1, 2 & 3 places. Noa Chodokufa won GOLD with a new PB time of: 40.06sec, Natasha Wynn, SILVER: 40.61sec (SB), and Evie Mosanya BRONZE: 40.81sec (PB). Jasmine Hall was 5th in the 1500m: 5m 06.99sec and Remi Salako won BRONZE in the long jump with: 5m 20cm. Waiz Yasser in the under 17 men was 3rd in heat 1 of the 100m: 11.44sec (PB) with Sammy Geist 5th in the same heat: 11.95sec (PB). Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland in the 400m heat 2 was 1st in a PB of: 50.96sec and Samuel Kolawole was 3rd in: 54.29sec (SB). In heat 1 Toby Falola was 3rd: 52.52sec (PB). All three of them qualified for the final and Thomas took GOLD with another PB of: 50.63sec, Toby won BRONZE: 52.26sec and Samuel just missing out on a medal with 4th place: 54.09sec (PB). Harry Stockill won SILVER in a very tough 1500m race with: 4m 07.78sec, William Stander was 4th in the Hammer with a new PB distance of: 46m 98cm and in the pole vault Stephen NG was 2nd SILVER: 3m 20cm and Rahul Solanki: 2m 70cm BRONZE.

 William Muffett in a straight 800m final in the under 20 mens race was 4th: 1m 59.34sec, Lucas Emeagi won GOLD in the straight 400m final: 50.32sec (SB), while Marcel Winter was 1st in the 100m heat 1: 11.16sec (SB) and in the final he ran another (SB) claiming SILVER: 10.98sec. Isabelle Kyson took SILVER in the 400m in the under 20 women's race with a time of: 59.64 secs. 

Sunday 11th May (Day 2)S

Similarly to Saturday, Day 2 certainly didn't disappoint with more great performances and medals gained. The U/13 Girls 200m saw Ella Roberts run in heat 1 and was 2nd: 28.71sec (PB) and Kehanique Lowe was 7th: 30.81sec, while Phoebe Quorn ran in heat 2: 30.48sec (PB) and 4th. In the final Ella came home in 5th with an even quicker PB time of: 28.55sec. The longer middle distance of 1500m's had 5 athletes from the club compete. Lottie Oates was 1st home in 6th: 5m 19.28sec (PB), Chloe Ward was 7th: 5m 24.96sec (PB), Gracie Fayinka: 2m 25.05sec (PB) and 8th, Poppy Barker, 9th: 5m 27.65sec (PB), and Sophia Stephenson was 10th: 5m 41.33sec (PB). Gracie claimed bronze in the Javelin with a distance of: 22m 84cm (PB) and Maia Lalani: 12m 25cm and 9th (PB). The last event was the long jump with another 4 Woodford athletes taking part. Grace Cherry won bronze with a PB of 4m 41cm.

Daisy Whelan was 5th: 4m 17cm, Emilia Herbert: 3m 60cm and 11th with Ella Roberts 15th: 3m 20cm. In the under 13 boys Idris Bernard produced a superb clearance in the high jump claiming SILVER: 1m 35cm and Lukas Sendar in the 200m was 4th in a time of: 30.73sec (PB). The 1500m had Jax Connor finish 13th: 5m 27.27sec (PB) and Patrick Langan was 15th: 5m 42.13sec (PB).  

The U15 girls saw Joy Larinde continue where she left of in the 100s yesterday as she ran in heat 2 of the 200m with 2nd in 26.18sec, while in heat 1 Isabella Moulton came one place better in 1st with: 25.75 (PB), Cleopatra Drake was 3rd: 26.42sec, Maya Robinson: 4th in a time of: 26.68sec (PB) and Dorcas Oringa was 7th: 28.22sec (SB). In the final Joy claimed silver in 25.56sec (PB), Isabella won bronze in 25.61sec (PB) and Maya Robinson was 6th in 26.55sec (PB). Unfortunately, due to a slight injury, Cleopatra was unable to race.

Isabella Lester ran the 800m staright final and finsihed 7th in: 2m 38.02sec. Isabelle Stander did the javelin and was 5th with a throw of: 23m 53cm, while in the pole vault, Emily Stockill won SILVER: 2m 50cm (PB), Marissa Higgs-Smith BRONZE: 2m 50cm (PB), Phoebe Whelan was 4th: 2m 30cm (SB) and Talya Aladekomo was 5th with: 2m 20cm.  

As on the Saturday, the U15 boy sprinters were again in fine form, this time in the 200m. Lawrence Foster in heat 1 was 1st in 24.24sec, in heat 2 Alex Osagie was 1st in 23.37sec (SB), Tyler Reynolds was 2nd in 24.22sec (PB) and Nathaniel Sandy was 3rd in 24.74sec (PB).

The final, now packed with talent, was a very close race but our boys claimed another 1-2-3. Alex Osagie took gold in 23.14sec with Lawrence just 0.01 second behind him, running a 23.15sec PB, with Tyler Reynolds taking the third medal in 23.71sec (PB). Nathaniel Sandy was 6th with 24.82sec.

Nathaniel then went on to contest the shot put and claimed BRONZE with a putt of: 9m 77cm. Eric Frith was 10th in Javelin with a new PB distance of: 20m 67cm, while Toby Taylor gained a new PB height in the high jump with: 1m 66cm SILVER. In the 800m final Kaidon Nelson-Gursay ran a PB time of: 2m 16.97sec, Eric Frith: 2m 29.03sec (PB) and George Keen time of: 2m 07.75sec (PB) was good enough for GOLD. 

 A strong under 17 men contingent did exceptionally well with Rahul Solanki finishing 2nd in the 400m Hurdles in a time of: 1m 07.72sec (PB) and SILVER, Oscar Eaton in heat 1 of the 800m was 2nd: 2m 01.76sec (SB) and Lucas Freedman in heat 2 was 5th with: 2m 06.24sec (SB). In the final Oscar Eaton produced a very good performance which enabled him to claim GOLD in a time of: 1m 58.83sec (PB). George Watkins and Daniel Arnold ran in the long distance of 3000m's and George won GOLD in: 9m 09.42sec (SB), with Daniel winning BRONZE: 9m 29.43sec. The 200m, Waiz Yasser in heat 1 was 1st in: 23.12sec (PB) and Callum Clydesdale was 4th in: 23.83sec. In the final Waiz came just outside the medals in 4th with: 22.87sec (SB). The field events saw William Stander claim BRONZE in the javelin with his new PB throw of: 42m 95cm and James Simpson was 5th with: 32m 22cm, while in the triple jump a trio of athletes took part. Sammy Geist won SILVER with a distance of: 12m 50cm (PB), while Callum Clydesdale beat fellow Woodford athlete Samuel Kolawole by 1cm, Callum BRONZE: 11m 74cm (PB, and Samuel: 11m 73cm (PB).  

Evanna Eze still very new to the 300m hurdles event finished 5th in the under 17 women's event with: 49.86sec. Alice Padian was 7th in the 800m: 2m 36.67sec (PB). In the 200m's Annabella Drake ran in heat 1 finishing 2nd in: 26.21sec, Habiba Tijani was 3rd: 26.56sec (PB) and in heat 2 Shalom Prince was 3rd in: 26.11sec (SB). The final was competitive as most races and Shalom finished 4th: 25.93sec, Annabella was 5th: 26.11sec and Habiba 8th: 26.92sec. The pole vault had Amber Higgs-Smith claim BRONZE with a height of: 2m 10cm (SB). The under 20 women Erin Delea won GOLD in the discus with a throw of: 36m 74cm, and Giselle Moulton also claimed GOLD in the pole vault with: 2m 70cm. In the 400m hurdles Isabelle Kyson won SILVER with a time of: 1m 05.50sec (PB) and Matilda Frith was 4th: 1n 27.10sec (SB), while Anaand Tratt won BRONZE in the 1500m with: 5m 06.35sec (SB), Amira Adeshokan ran the 200m straight final and claimed SILVER in: 25.86sec. Aidan O’Driscoll ran in the 1500m and won BRONZE with a time of: 4m 06.01sec. Lastly the two men that took part in the 200m's was Ethan Franklin who came home victorious with a new PB time of: 21.09sec GOLD, with Marcel Winter was 4th in: 22.14sec (SB)
