Powerful start for YDL Lower: club & championship records
On a warm day at Ashton Playing Fields WGEL hosted the 1st round of the YDL Lower Southern Premier league, and what a start it was with some outstanding performances and, to top that off, a championship-best performance and two club records, one dating back to 1993 (32 years ago).

In the Under 15 Boys the stand-out was Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland who powered his way home in the 80m Hurdles with a 1st place time of 11.03sec and the CLUB RECORD that has stood since 1993 was gone and the time was only 3 hundredths of a second behind the championship record set by Joseph Hardin from Basildon AC in 2017. He then went on to record a PB in the High Jump with 1m 60cm. Toby Taylor also did the Hurdles and High Jump with a PB in the Hurdles of 12.38sec which this time was not wind-assisted and he cleared 1m 60cm for the same height as Daniel.

Alex Osagie was 2nd in the 100m in a time of 11.47sec and Lawrence Foster 1st in B-string: 11.55sec. Nathaniel Sandy & Josiah Franklin ran in the non-scoring 100s with: 12.22sec and 14.14sec respectively. Alex also did the 200m in: 22.93sec and Tyler Reynolds: 23.91sec who also did the Long Jump and finished 2nd in A string with: 5m 58cm while Toby leaped to a new PB in the B string with: 5m 26cm. Daniel Fairlamb recorded a good PB in the 300m with a 3rd in A string: 40.27sec and Laurent Modeste-Lesforis making his debut in the event with: 40.56sec. In the middle distance events, George Keen ran very well in the 800m with 1st place in A string and a PB time of: 2m 09.51sec and Kaiden Nelson-Gursoy was 4th in B string: 2m 18.21sec. Oskar Prince and Emmanuel Olabanji were non-scorers in the 800m in times of: 2m 25.26 for Oskar and a PB with Emmanuel running: 2m 57.60sec. The 1500m had Adam Amin run: 4m 49.74sec and Eric Frith ran a PB time of: 4m 57.11sec. Okkie Lee was 2nd in the A String pole vault with a height of: 2m 50cm, unfortunately Daniel Hayden, who is still very new to the event, was unable to clear the height required, this will most definitely change in the future. Harrison Dawe was 2nd in the A string Shot Putt: 10m 25cm and Nathaniel Sandy: 9m 99cm for 1st in B string. Nathaniel debuted in the Discus with: 21m 78cm and Kian Traynor threw: 17m 25cm. Kian also did two other throws events with PB's in both. He was 1st in the Hammer with a PB of: 37m 18cm and 28m 33cm in the Javelin and the 2nd PB. Harrison Dawe was the B string in the Hammer: 23m 06cm to claim 1st and Oskar Prince was 1st B string in Javelin: 25m 88cm. The relays for the team was again very impressive. In the 4x100m (Tyler Reynolds, Laurent Modeste-Lesforis, Lawrence Foster & Alex Osagie) were truly brilliant with 1st place in a time of: 45.35sec, while the 4x300m team (Daniel Fairlamb, Josiah Franklin, Daniel Niewczsinski-Kirkland & Toby Taylor) came home 2nd in: 2m 48.43sec.
The Under 15 girls didn't disappoint either. Joy Larinde lead the way with a sprint double success. In the 100m she ran: 12.60sec and a PB time of: 25.47sec in the 200m.

Cleopatra Drake ran a non-wind-assisted time in the B string 100m with: 13.21sec for 1st. Shantay Charles ran: 14.24sec and Dorcas Oringa: 14.19sec in the 100m non-scoring event, while Maya Robinson was the other 200m runner who was also 1st in the B string with a new PB time of: 26.48sec. Tyleah Edwards and Isabella Moulton ran the 300m with Tyleah timing: 44.17sec and Isabella in a superb PB of: 41.98sec and 1st B String. Isabella also did the 75m Hurdles and again another PB in A string with: 11.25sec and Tyleah was 1st B string with: 13.09sec. Eva Prince ran a new PB in the 800m with: 2m 33.69sec and Chloe Summers was B String: 2m 45.84sec, while Rosie Muffett ran: 2m 45.10sec and Aoife Pearce: 3m 01.28sec in the non-scoring 800m's. Sophia Parker in the 1500m recorded a time of: 5m 22.10sec for 5th in the A string, while Isabella Lester was also 5th in B string: 5m 47.82sec. Cleopatra, buoyant after her 100m, did the Long Jump and leaped to a distance of: 4m 78cm and Tyleah recording a new PB leap of: 4m 62cm.

Isabella Moulton didn't just do the track but took to the High Jump and was very pleased in the A string with a clearance of: 1m 40cm and a PB, with Isabella Wheatley was 3rd in B string: 1m 25cm. Woodford had the only 2 competitors in the Pole Vault and Marissa Higgs-Smith and Talya Aladekomo cleared 2m 40cm and 2m 30cm to claim maximum points. Eden Dunnage kept the PB's going in the Shot Putt with 2nd A string with: 9m 16cm and Tare Gabrielle Akpoveta threw: 6m 91cm. In the Discus Isla Barron is continuing to grow in confidence in this event with a PB distance of: 21m 81cm to claim 1st in A string and Isabelle Stander debuting in the event was 4th B string with: 13m 79. Isabelle continued with her first at a new throwing event with a go at the Hammer and was 3rd in B string: 19m 66cm, while Isla was A string: 20m 78cm. Isabelle then had her turn at the event she started with the Javelin and was 4th in A string: 23m 63cm and Marissa Higgs-Smith threw a PB in the B string: 17m 87cm. Like the boys, the relay teams produced good performances. In the 4x100m ( Tare Gabrielle Akpoveta, Chanae Andrews, Cleopatra Drake & Joy Larinde) were 1st in a time of: 50.04sec. In the 4x300m (Ava O'Neal, Faith Franklin, Tyleah Edwards & Isabella Moulton) came home in 2nd place in a time of: 3m 02.94sec.
The star of the Under 13 Boys had to be Blake Edwards. Blake not only broke his own CLUB RECORD that he set last year in the High Jump but he went one further by breaking the YDL COMPETITION RECORD that was set in 2017, so the new height of: 1m 65cm, he also did the Shot Putt and won the A string with another PB of: 9m 36.

In the 75m Robert James making his debut with a time of: 10.90sec and Alfie Perkins was: 11.72sec, while Lukas Sendar ran in the non-scoring event with a PB of: 11.65sec and Joel Forder ran: 12.53sec which would have been a PB if not for it being wind assisted. The 150m's was another debut for Robert James with a time of: 20.86sec and Kyelan Brian recorded a PB in the B string in a time of: 21.23sec. Henry Richards ran the A string 800m and a new PB time of: 2m 27.04sec and Ashton Jokhiya also a PB with: 2m 29.73sec.

Patrick Langan time of: 2m 50.06sec and Luca Cook: 2m 53.44sec were representative in the non-scoring 800m's. Both Jack Tonge & Jax Connor were debutants in the 1200m and Jack ran: 4n 11.37, while Jax time was: 4m 13.65sec. In the sprint hurdles, Leo Ciarlet was 3rd in the A string with a new PB of: 14.86sec and Idris Bernard: 16.01sec was also a PB in the B string. Leo Ciarlet also took part in the Long Jump and leaped: 3m 86cm with Joel Forder: 2m 91cm.In the throwing events Robert James backed up the B string Shot Putt with a debut throw of: 6m 46cm and in the Javelin Fintan McDonnell threw an impressive new PB distance of: 20m 81cm and Henry Richards: 7m 84cm. The 4x100m relay team of (Kyelan Brian, Alfie Perkins, Joel Forder & Robert James) were 5th in: 58.41sec.
Ridaw Oluwa, like Joy in the Under 15s, also did the sprint double in the Under 13 girls. She completed a double PB with: 10.20sec in the 75m and was 1st in the 150m in a PB time of: 19.58sec. Ella Roberts also completed the same with: 10.69sec in the 75m and a time of: 21.01sec debuting in this event. Chloe Ward ran: 11.42sec and Lara Watson: 11.82sec and a PB in the non-scoring 75m. Rosie Anderson was in exceptional form in the 70m Hurdles and if it wasn't for being wind-assisted it would have been a PB but the time of: 12.19sec was good enough for 1st in A string.

Kehanique Lowe was 2nd in B string with: 13.21sec. The longer events of 800m and 1200m see the following, Grace Cherry and Lottie Oates were both 1st in A & B string 800m's with: 2m 35.73sec and 2m 36.46sec. Phoebe Quorn and Rosie Barron ran the 800m non-scoring event with times of: 2m 48.05sec and 3m 04.15sec. The 1200m Chloe Ward debuted with a time of: 4m 15.77 and Poppy Barker was 1st in B string with a new PB of: 4m 16.88sec. Grace Cherry jumped a superb distance of: 4m 37cm for 2nd A string in the Long Jump and a PB with Daisy Whelan: 4m 11cm was good enough for 1st place in the B string. Daisy also equalled her PB in the High Jump with: 1m 25cm and a debutant at the Shot Putt with: 6m 30cm. Phoebe Woods was 1st in B string High Jump with: 1m 20cm and threw: 4m 79cm in the Shot. In the last throwing event Maia Lalani's distance was : 9m 14cm and Rosie Barron threw a PB distance of: 7m 04cm. The last event was the 4x100m relay team (Kehanique Lowe, Ella Roberts, Rosie Anderson & Rida Oluwa). They did well and finished in a time of: 54.64sec for 2nd place.
The team now go on to round two at Tonbridge AC's venue on the 1st June and hope to keep the momentum going: GO TEAM WOODFORD.
