Essex Relay Championships - Medals and a Club record
On a very miserable evening where the rain lashed down for what seemed to be the entire evening, Chelmsford AC hosted the annual Essex Track relays and WGEL Young Athletes performed admirably.
The 4x100m Under 13 Girls were planning to field 2 teams but unfortunately due to a mis-communication in the A-team they failed to start, but the B-team (Isabella Wheatley, Aliyah & Alexis Ishiekwene & Bianca Matos), did compete. Despite never having trained with each other before they still managed a time of 61.92sec to finish 5th.
The Under 13 Boys (Toby Taylor, Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland, Alex Osagie & Lawrence Foster) continued their fine season as they powered their way to victory in a time of: 50.73sec.

The Under 15 Boys team (Kofi Odell Armstrong, Jaheim Roman, Sammy Geist & Alex Foster) found themselves in a very tough race and were unlucky to miss out on medals as they placed 4th with a time of 47.66sec.
The only event to have heats was the Under 15 Girls (Caitlin Hancock, Evanna Eze, Zoe Hedges & Nevaeh Johnson) who ran in a very tightly contested heat recording 50.06sec to finish 2nd. In their final they came home in 3rd place to take the bronze medals with a time of: 50.55sec.

The only other 4x100m race involving Woodford athletes was the Under 17 Women (Benie Massembo, Tejiri Akpoveta, Tito Adeleye & Lilly Spong) who ran really well claiming 2nd place and silver medals with a time of 51.48sec.

In the longer events WGEL had 5 teams, three of which were 3x800m races. The Under 13 Boys team ( Emmanuel Olabanji, Okkie Lee & Thomas Nicholls) finsihded 4th with 8m 18.41sec.
The Under 13 Girls team (Zoe Wright, Sophia Parker & Marissa Higgs-Smith) however went better than the boys as they finished with a well a deserved 2nd place and silver medals in a timeof 8m 30.81sec.

The Under 15 Boys team (Lucas Freedman, Stephen Ng & Daniel Arnold) were 6th in 7m 10.70sec.
The other two races were the U 15 4 x 300m with Woodford represented in both. The U/15 Girls (Evie Mosanya, Mame-Nhyria Coleman, Eliza Bridges & Daisy Coleman) came home in a very creditable 3rd place for bronze medals in a time of 3m 03.66sec.

And the U/15 Boys (Rahul Solanki, Callum Clydesdale, Oskar Kyson & Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland) also took bronze medals recording a new Club record time of 2m 43.55sec which replaces the previous record set back in 2019.
