Essex Schools Combined Events: Brentwood, Wed. 24th May

Two very promising up and coming athletes represented their schools in this annual event. They both produced brilliant results to secure gold medals

U15 Girls Pentathlon

For the very first time Natasha Wynn took part in this multi event Pentathlon and scored an excellent victory with a score of 2976 which puts her top of the UK rankings.

Natasha started out with 12.2 for the 75 metres hurdles for 4th in this discipline, just outside her PB. Natasha high jumped 1.54 metres, a PB which gave her 2nd in that event. The Long Jump of 4.82m went well for 3rd. The Shot Putt maybe at this moment is probably her weak event, but she still got a PB of 6.98 for 13th. With the 800, being the final event Natasha just strode out a comfortable 2 mins 20 seconds. Her winning margin over the second placed athlete was 270 points.

Natasha will now represent Essex Schools at the regional event at Boston, Lincolnshire in three weeks time, where she will face Mia Squires from Norfolk, who must be one of the favourites to win the English Schools Combined events in September.

U17 girls Pentathlon

Rebecca Wright, who gained an International vest for this event last year, scored a massive win by over 600 points.

For the Javelin and Shot Putt Rebecca gained 1st place for these disciplines with 31.04 metres and 11.58 metres respectively.

The 80 metres went really well too, with another win in 11.8. This was followed by the long jump with 5.11 metres for yet another win. The final event was the 200 metres whereby Rebecca scorched to an excellent PB in 25.7 to win this event as well.

Like Natasha, Rebecca will go to Boston to contest the Heptathlon over the two days towards the end of June in the Regional finals.

We wish both girls the very best of luck at Boston on the 24th/25th June where they both strive to make the English Schools in September at Bedford.
