Club Record Goes at Southern Champs

WGEL Juniors took the track and field at this year's South of England Championships held at Chelmsford Athletic Track over the weekend of Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th August.

On Saturday 13th August the under 13 boys were in action in the sprints. Lawrence Foster following impressively in his brother Alex's footsteps and ran the 100m heat 1 of 2 qualifying for the final in a time of: 13.19sec and finished 7th in the final in: 13.31sec, this is extra impressive as he is bottom year under 13. Daniel Arnold ran the 800m and ran an excellent PB with a time of: 2m 28.4sec, 4th in heat 2 of 2 and just missing out of the final by hundredths of a second. Jasmine Hall for the under 13 girls ran the 800m and finished with: 2m 41.4sec and 6th in heat 1 of 3. Evanna Eze continues to get better and this was clearly evident in the 200m. In heat 2 of 2 Evanna qualified comfortably with 1st place time of: 26.87sec and then went on to do even better in the final winning GOLD in a new PB time of: 26.56sec.

Isabelle Kyson ran in the 75m Hurdles for the under 15 girls. In heat 1 of 2 she finished 3rd with: 12.32sec and then in the final was 5th: 12.19sec. Natasha Wynn was running in the 800m. In heat 2 of 3 she eased her way to the final with a 1st place time: 2m 16.68sec, while Ella Traynor was 9th in heat 3 of 3 with: 2m 51.61sec. Aidan O'Driscoll ran in the under 15 boys 1500m and was 9th in: 5m 49.55sec. Alex Foster competed in the 200m and was 1st home in heat 1 of 3: 23.89sec and then finished well in a competitive final with a SILVER medal and a time of: 23.08sec. Recent athlete of the month Lucas Emeagi was in the mix with the 300m. He ran in heat 1 of 2 to qualify for the final: 38.99sec and likewise Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland who ran in heat 2 of 2 also qualified for the final with a time of: 38.46sec. In the final again, stacked with talent Lucas was 5th in: 39.25sec, but Thomas who is bottom year under 15 came home in 4th with a new and impressive PB time of: 37.98sec. Other under 15 girls taking part in day 1 were girls in the 200m. Nevaeh Johnson who again is improving all the time ran in heat 2 of 3 and finished 4th: 27.11sec and Eliora Arthur-Kennedy was in the same heat: 28.11sec and a new PB. Amana Oguntuga was in heat 3 and finished 4th in: 29.55sec. The only under 17 man to take part was Alfie Ward who took part in the 800m. It was heat 2 of 2. He ran really well and although he didn't progress to the final ran a new PB time of: 2m 02.16sec.

In the field events on the 1st day Lucas Kaye, under 17 men shone very brightly with a massive leap in the long jump of: 6m 23sec a new PB and a SILVER medal to go along with his brilliant performance.

Joseph Arnold still fairly new to the Hammer claimed a PB with a new distance of: 25m 42cm. In the under 15 girls Rebecca Wright claimed SILVER in the shot putt with: 12m 06cm. Milan Andrews in the under 15 boys claimed 11th position in the Discus with a new PB of: 26m 64cm. Caitlin Hancock under 15 girls under new coaching guidance with her long jump in improving and this was again evident in this event with a new PB distance of: 5m 12cm and a 4th place.

Remi Salako who, like Caitlin, has taken to the long jump like a duck to water, was 4th, like Caitlin, in the under 13 girls event with: 4m 47cm.

To finish Day 1 events Oskar Kyson and Kian Traynor competed in the under 13 boys Javelin. Kian threw: 18m 98cm and Oskar just missed out on a medal with a 4th place distance: 24m 47cm.

Day 2 Sunday 14th August it was another sunny and warm day at Chelmsford and the WGEL Juniors continued to improve and most certainly didn't disappoint. Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland went in a straight final of the boys 75m hurdles and again unlucky to finish just outside the medals with a 4th place time of: 12.95sec. Callum Clydesdale and Lawrence Foster both took part in the 200m and Lawrence in heat 1 of 2 with 4th: 27.83sec and Callum in heat 2 of 2: 26.51sec and 3rd both qualified for the final later that day. In the final Callum finished 4th with a new PB of: 25.83sec and Lawrenace also claimed a PB with: 26.78sec and 6th. Evanna Eze, not satisfied with her 200m success yesterday, claimed another GOLD so a sprint double when she ran: 13.28sec in heat 1 of 2 of the under 13 girls 100m and then won the final with: 13.23sec.

Caitlin Hancock and Nevaeh Johnson ran in the under 15 girls 100m. Caitlin was 2nd in heat 3 of 3 with: 12.99sec, qualifying for the final and Nevaeh ran a time of: 13.11sec but unfortunately did not qualify for the final. Caitlin finished 5th in the final with: 13.00sec.

Alex Foster ran the boys 100m and in heat 1 of 3 was 2nd with: 11.58sec and then came home in a very tough final in: 11.96sec and 6th.

Natasha Wynn after comfortably qualifying yesterday for the 800m was ready for action today and didn't disappoint. Natasha ran a well controlled race and came away with a SILVER medal and a new PB time of: 2m 12.15sec and along with that smashed a CLUB RECORD that had stood for 21 years, so a fantastic effort and performance all round.

Savanna Gayle also took part in heat 2 of 2 and finished with a new PB of: 14.70sec.

Isabelle Kyson ran the 300m with a time of: 42.92sec in heat 1 of 2 which qualified her for the final and then finished 4th in the final with: 42.21sec.  Lastly in the under 17 women Maia Fisher was 5th in heat 2 of the 80m hurdles: 12.64sec, which qualified her for the final and then came home 8th in a time of: 12.52sec.

The field events on Day 2 was again well represented by the WGEL Juniors. Callum Clydesdale under 13 boys although still very raw with the High Jump leaped a height of: 1m 40cm to come 4th.Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland in the under 15 boys was also 4th with: 5m 38cm. Demi Salako like Joseph Arnold on day 1 is still fairly new to the hammer event but in the under 15 girls competition came 7th with a new PB distance of: 25m 17cm. Lilly Spong under 15 girls trying a new event herself in the triple jump was very pleased to gain a distance of: 9m 44cm and 8th position. In the Javelin Rebecca Wright under 15 girls was 4th with: 31m 88cm and Alex Hancock in the under 17 men's event was 5th: 36m 90cm. Maia Fisher rounded things of with her under 17 women's shot putt, claiming 7th place with: 9m 18cm.
