WGEL Juniors at Inter-Counties CC

WGEL juniors were well represented in these championships where each county selects the best eight runners for each age group. So bearing in mind it is an honour just to be part of this event.

Joel Doye in the Under 20 men’s race had an excellent run to place 62nd and first home for Essex. He is now looking forward to the English Schools and hopefully a top 50. A week later we are confident he will make his senior club debut in the Southern Road Relays.

In the Under 13 girls race Natasha Wynn had another strong run to place 41st from over 300 runners and second home for Essex. Natasha is now looking forward to the track season and her ambition is to make the All England Schools track champs in July.

In the Under 15 girls both Abigail Reid 42nd and second home for Essex and Tilly Major 165th running for Hertfordshire found it hard. Both girls are going through tough times at the moment so it’s paramount they receive all the support they can to take them through this sticky patch.

In the Under 17 girls race Kezia Beeton was once again representing Essex having worn the red vest as both an U13 and U15 girl in previous years. Kezia gave a good account of herself, placing 112th.

The Under 15 boys was a tough affair but Essex struck gold in this race. Nate Harding has had an excellent season but after having tight battles with Herts Phoenix runner Luke Dunham in previous races this time Nate was 20 seconds behind his rival as Luke was 75th to Nates 120th. This just goes to show that, if you are little off the pace, you lose 50 places. Nate can now look forward to the road races that lie ahead.

In the Under 13 boys race poor Harry Stockill could not shift a stitch he encountered in his warm up and it stayed there for his entire race after. He was brave to finish in 222nd.
