Good results at Essex Schools Championships

The return of the Essex Schools Championships at Chelmsford after a 2 year absence provided several Woodford Green w EL younger athletes the opportunity to again perform in a Championship context. This year was a watered down event due to COVID-19 restrictions so there were no heats on the track. Amongst many fine performances there were County Schools titles for Shona Vincent, Danny Raymond, Abigail Reid, Maia Fisher and Rebecca Wright. In the Intermediate girls, Shona Vincent was in explosive form with a new PB in the 100m with a time of: 12.06sec claiming GOLD and this was also inside the English Schools national standard time. Kezia Beeton ran the 800m and finished 4th just outside the medals in: 2m 22.43sec. Maisy Silverstone ran the longer distance of 1500m and again was 4th in a SB time of: 5min 20.42sec. In the field in the intermediate (U/17) girls age group, Evelyn Cenney claimed GOLD in the Long Jump with: 4m 77cm and Gbemi Majekodunmi won a BRONZE in the Hammer with a distance of: 33m 71cm.
Results rom the Intermediate boys were led by Danny Raymond, who continues to improve over 800m, and this race was no different, a GOLD in a time of: 1m 57.60sec. In the same race Max Richards & Reuben Fabian finished 4th & 6th respectively in: 2m 04.17sec & 2m 15.75sec, although Reuben's time was not reflective of his normal time as he was under the weather with a slight cold. The only boy for the club in the intermediate field events was still very good as Luke Finch came 3rd in the Hammer and Bronze medal with a new PB distance of: 39m 05cm.

The remaining athletes were in the Junior (U/15) boys & girls section. In the Boys Nate Harding ran a PB in the 800m and 6th place: 2m 11.76sec and Oscar Barbero-Farthing in the same race was 7th in a PB time of: 2m 11.39sec. Marcel Winter ran the 100m in a PB time of: 12.35sec for 6th, whilst Omari Paul Jones came 2nd and SILVER in the Long Jump: 4m 96cm. In the Junior girls 1500m, Abigail Reid was in fine form again with 1st place GOLD : 4m 48.18sec, Molly Sherrin 3rd place BRONZE in: 5m 05.35sec and Izzy Worwood was 10th in: 5m 35.81sec. Maya McNelis ran a PB in the 800m with: 2m 46.48sec. In the shorter sprint hurdles Maia Fisher was also very impressive with a win and GOLD medal in the 75m Hurdles and a time of: 11.59sec, whilst two athletes competed in field events, Ciara Falola-Cook was 7th in the High Jump: 1m 35cm and Rebecca Wright won GOLD in the Shot Putt with: 10m 11cm which was just 1cm outside her PB.
