CINDY SEMBER GOES 2ND ON UK ALL-TIME LIST PLUS OTHER TRACK AND FIELD NEWS

The Ofili sisters continued their good early season form in the US where Cindy Sember moved to 2nd on the UK all-time ranking lists. Others were in action also including at the BMC Stretford meeting with good early season marks for Ewan Dyer and Ben Potrykus.

Racing at the very high standard USATF Gold Games meeting at Walnut, California Cindy Sember placed 2nd over 100mH in a personal best 12.53 secs (+2.0). The race was won by the US athlete Keni Harrison the silver medalist from the 2019 World Championships in Doha who recorded 12.48 secs. Cindy’s sister Tiffany Porter was 6th in 12.69 secs (+2.0). Both times for Cindy and Tiffany were qualifying marks for the Tokyo Olympics. Cindy’s mark was a personal best and moves her ahead of Jess Ennis-Hill to 2nd on the UK all-time list behind Tiffany’s UK record of 12.51 secs. Cameron Fillery, another hoping for Olympic sprint hurdle selection, recorded 13.78 secs (+0.2) over 110mH the previous week at Nuneaton. Also from the US, there was news of HCA member Matt Arnold who recently raced at Austin, Texas, where he won a 3000m s/ch race with 9m13.78 secs.

The BMC meeting at Stretford was the first outing this season for many middle distance athletes. Ewan Dyer raced for the first time since the 2019/20 indoor season and recorded a very solid 800m time of 1m51.79 secs when placing 5th in his race. Over 5000m Ben Potrykus had his first serious outing over the distance, comfortably winning the B race and setting a personal best of 14m10.33 secs. In the A race HCA member Jamie Crowe placed 11th with 14m14.79 secs.

At Kilmarnock in very difficult weather conditions decathlete Howard Bell cleared 3.75m in the pole vault, recorded 15.27 secs w (+3.7) over 110mH and was close to his best in the discus with 35.89m. Others in action in this meeting included Rebecca Matheson, 2nd over 200m with 24.41 secs w (+2.3), Declan Gall 3rd over 400m with 51.08 secs and HCA member Jenna Wrisberg 3rd over 100m with 12.28 secs (+1.8).
