Track & Field News

A relatively quiet week for Woodford athletes, with too few available competitions to take advantage of the almost perfect athletics weather over the last week. There was however news of Daniel Rowden who made the semi-final of the World Junior Championships, and of Tiffany Porter, Cindy Ofili and Tosin Oke who competed at the London Anniversary Games over this weekend.

Daniel Rowden who last year made the final of the European Junior Championships over 800m, this year moved up to the world stage as he competed for GB & NI in the World Junior Championships last week in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Daniel qualified from his heat with 4th as an automatic qualifier for the semi-final with 1m50.69, and then placed 7th in the semi with 1m49.58 secs. At the Olympic Stadium on Friday evening Tiffany Porter recorded a season's best over 100mH of 12.70 secs (+0.3), but such was the standard in a race in which one of the longest standing Track & Field world records was broken, that season's best left Tiffany back in 6th place. Cindy Ofili ran 12.95 secs (+0.2) in the heats. Another in their last competition prior to the Rio Olympics was Tosin Oke who placed 8th in the triple jump with 16.37m.

At Eltham during last week it was pleasing to see Andrew Mariani back in good quality track action where he placed 5th in teh "A" 800m with 1m53.11 secs, and James Stockings was 2nd in the "B" with 1m56.09 secs. In the field Christman Ihume recorded 13.41m in the triple jump and Chris Linque 49.39m in the discus.
