UK Cross Challenge: Cardiff

Four young Under 11s travelled to Cardiff to participate in races over 1700 metres in a muddy Blackview Park.

In the Girls race, young Holly Hudson, who is only 9, got a great start and was in the top 10 for most of the race. It was only over the last 300/400 metres she lost a few places but still placed an excellent 15th place out of 70 starters.Cardiff CC Challenge 2016

In the Boys race over the same distance Maxwell Chinn was unlucky to fall over at the start. At halfway, though, Maxwell was seen back up in the top 8 and a strong finish saw him place an excellent 4th, just 20 seconds behind the winner. Sid Cody also performed well again, in 41st place out of 75 starters. A word of praise for young Dylon White who was running along with Sid until, 300 metres from the finish, he sprained his ankle and was unable to finish. After attention by St Johns Ambulance he was OK with an ice pack on his ankle.

The youngsters really enjoyed their day and it was a proud moment for our club to have representation in this top class race. I [John Stow] must thank coach Steve Cody for transporting three of the youngsters to Cardiff.
