Essex Schools CC: Hilly Fields

A beautiful bright Saturday morning found a host of Woodford Green runners representing West Essex in the Essex Schools Cross Country Championships at Hilly Fields in Colchester.

In the Junior Girls race our young athletes ran very well. Siena Taylor came in 27th, closely followed by Wren Mclean-Jackson in 28th place in a large field of year 8 and year 9’s.

The West Essex Junior Boys team had 5 Woodford Green runners and they brought a real team spirit, in fact Sidnie Ward (no. 90, above) was heard on the start line to shout a rallying cry of "Come on boys, let's do this!" And they certainly did.

Sidnie came in 3rd, Joe Geller (pictured below left and right) soon after, pleased with 10th, and Hayden Maleary followed closely in 12th. Unknown 2

These 3 boys received a SE Inter-Counties invite as a result of their performance. Sidnie also qualified for the English Schools. Todd Maleary, 31st, and Kai Boggon 35th, also ran very well, bearing in mind the large field of over 100 runners, and scored well to seal a West Essex Junior Boys Team Win.

Finally, Louise Gilbert (pictured below) was very happy with 13th in the hard-fought Intermediate Girls race, and was also pleased to be invited to the SE Inter-Counties in February as a result of her efforts.

It was great to see so many Woodford Green Young Athletes running for West Essex and all should be very proud of their performances and the spirit they brought with them.
