RIP Stef McCarthy (Coleman) 1956-2025

The club was very sorry to hear of the passing of long-time member Stef McCarthy on 10th March after a short illness, bravely fought.  Stef was the wife of fellow member Andy Coleman.

Stef was one of the first women to join Woodford Green AC after it went mixed and before the merger with Essex Ladies.  A decent distance runner, she achieved some good performances in the veteran categories, in particular winning the British W45 title over 10000m in 2003.  She also immersed herself in club activities including helping to manage the Southern League T&F team, organising Vets teams to take part in various championships and spent time working on initiatives to try and get sponsorship for the club.  In recent years she was always a keen attendee of club social events, especially the quiz nights.

Our condolences go out to her husband Andy and to her family and friends.

Stef's funeral will be held at 11am on Friday 11th April 2025 at Forest Park Crematorium, Forest Road, IG6 3HP and afterwards a reception will be held in our clubhouse.
