RIP Ted Wilsher
We are saddened to report that one of the club's great members, Ted Wilsher, has passed away at the age of 80.
Edward Thomas Wilsher joined the club in 1957, competing in the sprints, middle distance, throws and jumps. His greatest contributions were as Home Fixtures Secretary (1964-1990), Clubhouse Secretary and Manager (1978 for approx 30 years), and organising the annual Dinner Dance (15 years), amongst many other activities.
He was the driving force behind the construction of the clubhouse in the mid-1970s (which is why the club bar was christened The Wilsher Rest!), and heavily involved in getting the Ashton track refurbished in 2006 and in acquiring funds for, and building, the Conditioning Room.
He was made a life member in 1975 and served as President 1980-82.
Outside athletics he was a successful businessman as managing director and then chairman of Kind & Co (Builders) Ltd. He was also an active member of local Rotary clubs.
He was a very active golfer and enjoyed his golfing holidays in Portugal. This is where, after battling illness, he chose to spend his final days in the company of his family and some close friends.
