RIP Ron Jones
We are sorry to report the passing of our former international sprinter Ron Jones, who died on 30th December.
Ron was with us for a few years in the early 1960s, during which time he represented GB at the Tokyo Olympics. After leaving us to join Enfield, he captained the GB team at the Mexico Olympics. He was part of GB's 4 x 110 yards team that equalled the world record, with 40.0 seconds, in 1963.
Meanwhile a Woodford Green AC 4 x 110 yards team, coached by Ron Bowden, won the AAA (national) title in 1961, 1962 and 1964. One of Ron's club teammates was David Jones, a fellow member of the GB squad. Ron won 12 Welsh sprint titles.
In later life, he was either Chief Executive or Managing Director of Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City and Portsmouth.
