Track & Field Update

In the period following the first NAL fixture several Woodford athletes have been in action leading up this weekend’s National U/20 and U/23 Championships at Bedford and the senior British Championships and Olympic Trials to be held at Manchester next weekend. Amongst the many decent performances there was a personal best and Club “domestic”  record over 110mH for Cameron Fillery. There was also a significant personal best in the discus for Precious Hamilton, another  for Ben Potrykus  and  season’s bests for more.

Cameron Fillery improved upon his own “domestic” (for UK qualified athletes) when he recorded 13.46 secs (+1.1) to win in Copenhagen. This was a personal best by 0.08 secs and closes in on the Tokyo Olympic qualifying time of 13.35 secs. The Woodford absolute Club best is still held by Nigerian international William Erese whose 13.42 secs was set in 2003. Also competing in Copenhagen was Sam Khogali who placed 2nd in the long jump with season’s best of 7.65m (0.0). Ben Potrykus’ p.b. was recorded over 1500m at the BMC Watford Grand Prix where he placed a close 3rd in a high quality “B” race with 3m43.28 secs. HCA member Ahmed Abdule also recorded a p.b. over 5000m with 14m21.36 secs and there were season’s best over 800m for each of Ewan Dyer with 1m51.49 secs, Anna Clark 2m.11.15 secs and Chloe Bradley 2m13.83 secs.

 Another racing over 800m but in Hengelo, Netherlands was reigning British Champion, Dan Rowden who ended up 4thin a very tight and rather “messy” race with 1m47.24 secs

At the South of England Championships at Bedford several Woodford athletes were in action and it was here that Precious Hamilton improved her discus p.b. by more than 3m as she placed 3rd in the  U/20 completion with 46.23m to currently rank her 4thU/20 in the U.K. Yucef Zatat won the senior men’s shot title with a put of 17.92m and George Vaughan continued with his good form as he picked a bronze with his 3rd place over 400mH with a season’s best of 53.63 secs. In the women’s equivalent Jasmine Mitchell was 5th in her final with 64.09 secs, also a season’s best. I the women’s long jump Kitty Eleyae placed 4th with 5.60m (-0.4). Jo Ryan another HCA member recorded 26.09 secs (0.9) in her 200m heat. In the U/20 age group Matthew Adum-Yeboah progressed to the final where he placed 4th with a marginally windy 10.87 secs (+2.4). In the U/20 women’s sprints Gwen Datey placed 6th in the final of the 100m with 12.42 secs (-0.7) having recorded a personal best of 12.35 secs (+0.1) in qualifying. In the 200m heats Gwen also recorded 25.76 secs w (+3.5). In that event Kyra Bryce progressed through to the final where she placed 7th with 25.36 secs w (+2.5) having qualified  from her heat with 25.38 secs w (+3.5).

 At the Trafford sprints meeting Declan Gall was another to record a season’s best, over 400mH where he improved to 54.10 secs. Ciaran Wright thew the hammer at Kilmarnock and reached 62.69m. Racing at Stratford at the Newham sprints meeting Eugene Ado-Dadzie recorded times over 100m of 10.35 secs (+1.1) and 10.33 secs (-0.1) and there was a personal best for U/20 Sikiru Onigbanjo with 10.87 secs (+0.1) who also recorded a possibly superior (allowing for the wind) of 10.93 secs (-1.6). Another to record a p.b. was U/20 Medwin Odamitten with 11.09 secs (+1.6). In the women’s 100m Eloise Lewis recorded 13.07 secs (+0.7) and 12.81 secs (+0.3). Over 200m U/20 Nabil Texkratt recorded 22.05 secs (+0.5) whilst over 400m Yemi Mary John continued her fine consistent form with 53.72 secs. In the U/15 age group over 75mH Mia Fisher won her race with 11.59 secs (+1.2) and in 3rd was Rebecca Wright with 11.84 secs (+1.2). In the U/15 Boys 80mH George Samson recorded 16.91 secs (-0.4). Millie Finch also recorded a pesonal best over 400mH with time of 72.66 secs
