Essex & Eastern Indoor Championships – Medals & Championship Records
Last weekend saw over 40 Woodford athletes compete in the Essex & Eastern Indoor Championships (28th Feb – 1st March) at Lee Valley. The event has grown in recent years and combines Essex Athletics Association athletes and athletes from Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Cambridge and Suffolk as part of the Eastern Athletics Association.
All the athletes compete across sprints, hurdles, jumps, middle‑distance and throws events. Medals are jointly awarded to Essex and Eastern eligible athletes, and the combined regional fields make for a high level of competition.

Medals & Championship Records
Woodford athletes produced a stunning set of results. Looking at Essex medals, our athletes won 17 gold, 25 silver and 10 bronze medals, and in addition to the corresponding Eastern medals the total was nearly 100 medals. In addition to this medal haul, athletes produced 3 championship records alongside multiple personal bests and finals performances in what was a very successful weekend for the club.
Championship Records
Isabella Moulton (U17W) delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend in the 60m Hurdles. She progressed cleanly through all rounds, running 8.73s (PB) in the heats and 8.68s (PB) in the semi‑final, before producing a superb 8.56s (PB) in the final to win gold and set a new championship record.
Noa Sofia Chodokufa (U20W) broke the championship record in the 400m during the heats, running 56.14s (PB). She later returned to secure Essex gold in the final running 58.36.
Azzurra Cioni (U17W) produced a fantastic performance, qualifying in 41.58s before winning the 300m final in 40.08s and setting a Championship Record.
Gold Medals – Essex Champions
Woodford’s sprinters got the Championships under way in style with Evanna Eze (U17W) winning gold in the 60m, progressing through heats (7.90s), semi‑final (7.72s) and final (7.71s). In the U20 Women’s 60m Amira Adeshokan ran 7.85s in the heats before improving to 7.80s in the final to take gold.
At senior level, Merveilles Massembo secured gold in the 60m, equalling his personal best of 6.95 ahead of teammate Matthew Adum-Yeboah (7.04).

Over 200m, Joy Larinde (U17W) delivered a high‑class championship series, running 25.81s in the heats, 25.09s (SB) in the semi‑final and 25.10s in the final to win gold. Evie‑Mae Mosanya (U20W) added further sprint success, winning 200m gold in 25.95s.
Emma Louise Frisby (U15G) completed an excellent jumping double, winning high jump gold with 1.55m and long jump gold with 4.92m, capping a fine indoor season that has seen her win medals at national, southern and regional levels. In U13 Girls Long Jump, Daisy Whelan continued to add to her multi eventing repertoire, producing a best of 3.99m (SB) to claim Essex gold.
In the pole vault, Stephen Ng (U17M) cleared 3.60m to win gold. Keira Palmer (U20W) produced a personal‑best clearance of 3.16m to secure gold. In the triple jump Sammy Geist (U17M) won gold with 11.92m, alongside Tai’bat Owosho (U20W) who won gold in the U20 women's competition with 11.31m.
Our pole vault squad
In the throws, Hugh Williams claimed Senior Men’s shot-put gold with a best throw of 11.58m.
And Nathaniel Sandy (U15B) won gold in the 200m running a personal best time of 23.69s in the final.
Silver Medals
Emily Caton (U20W) ran 2:19.76 (SB) to take 800m silver, while Lucas Freedman (U17M) progressed through the heats with 2:02.41 before running 2:09.87 (SB) in the final for his 800m silver. William Muffett (U20M) and Alfie Ward (Senior M) also won 800m medals. Alfie ran 1:56.69 in the final to secure his medal and was pleased with his time. William was also pleased improving from 2:03.82 in the heats, he ran 1:59.35 in the final and looked strong into the finish. Daniel Arnold (U17M) added to the middle‑distance success, running strongly in the 1500m to secure silver in his first indoor race this season.
Sprint silvers came from Alex Osagie (U17M) and Matthew Adum‑Yeboah (Senior M) in the 60m and Shalom Prince (U15G) in the 200m, progressing well through the rounds and running 25.98 in the final. In the 60m Nathaniel Sandy (U15B) added a silver to the gold he took in the 200m, running 7.42s in a close 60m final.
Dimeji Olawoye (U13B) claimed 60m silver with 8.41s and Alfie Perkins (U13B) secured 200m silver in 29.10s, and Jesse Geller (U13B) ran 2:26.87 (PB) to win 800m silver. Matthew Delea (U17M) made a great debut for the club with silver in the 400m running 51.98s (PB) in the final.
In the field, there were a host of personal bests for our pole vault athletes. Amber Higgs‑Smith (U20W) cleared 2.66m (PB) for silver, with further silvers coming from Emily Stockill (U17W) who cleared 2.86m (PB) and Erika Grgek Greguric (U15G) clearing 1.96m (PB) on her debut. Zakaria Faisal (U17B) also made his debut and secured silver clearing 3.30m (PB).
Daisy Whelan (U13G) added shot put silver to her long jump gold with a throw of 8.27m (PB). Blake Edwards (U15B) produced a personal best of 5.10m in the long jump to secure Essex silver, continuing his excellent indoor season.
Bronze Medals
Isabella Moulton (U17W) complemented her hurdles gold with long jump bronze, leaping 5.01m (SB) for a medal. In the pole vault Rahul Solanki (U17M) earned bronze with a personal best of 3.10m. Zachary Mordi (U15B) and Marissa Higgs‑Smith (U17W) also both produced personal bests of 2m 40cm and 2m 76cm respectively to win bronze medals.
On the track, Phoebe Quorn (U13G) ran 29.18s (PB) to take 200m bronze in her first indoor race. Habiba Tijani progressed through the 200m rounds, running 26.35s (PB) in the heats and improving to 25.92s (PB) in the semi‑final before finishing third in the final with a run of 29.84s.
Oscar Eaton (U20M) claimed 800m bronze finishing just behind teammate William Muffett in a closely fought race. In the U17 800m Samuel Singh produced a personal best of 2:03.97 to secure bronze, finishing just behind teammate Lucas Freedman. In the 400m Jude Dempsey Thompson (U17M) won bronze on his debut for the club, running 55.08 in the final.
And Idris Bernard completed a great weekend of competition winning bronze in 60m hurdles with a personal best performance of 11.17s.
Finalists (Non‑Medallists)
Several athletes also reached finals, producing excellent championship performances. Ammarah Marshalleck (U15G) stepped up in age groups and ran superbly to progress to the 60m hurdles final running 9.78s (PB) for 5th place. Toby Falola (U17M) finished 4th in the 200m final, while Faith Franklin (U17W) finished 4th in 300m final having qualified with a personal best of 42.35 in the heats.
Henry Richards (U15B) finished 4th in the 800m final with 2:19.65. Elisha Onilogbo (U15B) finished 6th in the 200m final. Faith Franklin (U17W) finished 4th in 300m final, finishing 4th in 42.76, having earlier run 42.35 (PB) in the heats. In U13’s Jax Connor was fourth in 2:29.11 (PB).

It was an excellent weekend of indoor athletics for the club and all the athletes. Thanks to all the coaching team, officials and volunteers whose support underpinned a successful weekend. Athletes will now move their focus to the upcoming outdoor season with great confidence.
