National Indoor title for Georgie Forde-Wells
Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena hosted the British Indoor Senior Championships at the weekend. A small contingent of Woodford athletes made the trip with performances led by a national title for Georgie Forde-Wells.
After her BUCS title the prior weekend Georgie Forde-Wells, the 2023 UK outdoor triple jump champion, added an indoor title with a clearance of 13.36m. Over 60m Eugene Amo-Dadzie looked a title contender through qualifying, winning his heat in 6.68 secs and semi in 6.64 secs, but in a very tight final where 0.02 secs covered places 2nd to 5th Eugene just lost out on a medal placing 5th with 6.66 secs. Also over 60m in the Para final Bebe Jackson impressed finishing 4th overall with a p.b. of 8.65 secs but the highest placed in her own Para category (T44).
In the women’s 60mH Yasmine Ukwakwe did well to make the final, placing 8th with 8.44 secs but having recorded a personal best of 8.41 secs in qualifying. Sadly, BUCS silver medallist Ruben Hedman did not start his 60mH heat as a precautionary measure after picking up a slight injury. In the heats Jasmine Clark recorded 8.56 secs.
18-year-old Ethan Franklin impressed over 200m. Having been dq’d two weeks ago in the national Junior Champs in Sheffield for a marginal lane infringement when recording 21.26 secs he progressed through to the senior final where, in the tight 2nd lane, he placed 5th with 21.70 secs. However, that was after recording two p.b.s en-route, 21.31 secs placing 2nd in his heat and then 21.30 secs in his semi. Ethan still has an additional season as an U/20 athlete.
In the men’s long jump, Sam Khogali, who placed 2nd last year, was 6th this time, recording only one valid jump of 7.21m, whilst in a high standard men's 3000m won by World 3rd ranked George Mills, Ben Potrykus placed 13th with 8m06.82 secs.
