Emphatic win in 2nd round of YDL Lower

On a very pleasant and warm day, WGEL hosted match 2 of the the YDL Lower competition. The team ran out winners again and this time with an even bigger margin of victory:

The Under 15 Boys were delighted to welcome back Alex Foster after an injury and even with little training he was still able to run 11.99s for the 100m and was delighted to gain a PB in the Long Jump with a distance of 5.52m. Kofi Amoateng was the B string 100m athlete who recorded 12.30s, while Joshua Allen ran the non-scoring 100m in 14.25s. Callum Clydesdale ran the 200m in 25.32s and was 3rd A string in the High Jump with 1.40m. Callum is continuing to improve with his new event, the Pole Vault equalling his PB height of 2m. In the 300m Thomas O'Donnell ran only his 2nd race for the club at this distance and ran a PB time of 40.14s, while Lucas Freedman made his debut on the track as the B string athlete and was 3rd in 44.60s. Joshua Allen was also in action in the sprint hurdles and he recorded a wind assisted PB time of 16.10s in the B string. Rahul Solanki was 3rd in the A string with 15.50s.

In the middle distance races Harry Stockill was impressive with a win in the A string 800m in 2m 08.64s and Daniel Arnold a bottom year of this age group ran a PB time of 2m 21.93s, Lucas Freedman and Sid Smith ran the non-scoring 800m recording 2m 26.67s and 2m 33.94s respectively. The 1500m saw Luka Norden finsih 1st in the A string with 4m 21.64s and Stephen Ng who made his debut in this event was 3rd B string 5m 05.71s.  Rahul was also in the B string Long Jump and recorded a distance of 4.26m for 4th. He also contested the B string High Jump and equalled his PB of 1.35m. In the throwing events Kofi Amoateng was 3rd in the A string Shot with a PB of 9.89m and William Stander was 1st B string, also with a PB of 9.66m. William also did the Hammer and was 1st with 29.63m and recorded a PB in the A string Javelin with 29.40m. Oskar Kyson was in the B string Javelin and threw 25.75m. Harry Stockill threw 20.05m in the B string Hammer. Jaheim Roman placed 3rd in the A string Discus with a PB of 24.70m with Leo Everitt 2nd in the B string 18.05m. The team finished off with the two relays and the 4x100m (Rahul Solanki, Kofi Amoateng, Callum Clydesdale & Alex Foster) was 3rd in 47.54s. In the 4x300m (Harry Stockill, Luka Norden, Daniel Arnold & Thomas O'Donnell) unfortunately were disqualified for breaking too early.

In the Under 15 Girls the athletes delivered some good performances. Caitlin Hancock was 4th in the A string 100m in 12.86s and Nevaeh Johnson who continues to improve and impress was 2nd in the B string with 12.93s. Eliora Arthur-Kennedy and Remi Salako were the non-scoring 100m athletes recording 13.67s and 13.70s respectively. Nevaeh ran the A string 200m and was 5th in 26.71s, while bottom year of the age Evanna Eze ran a time of 27.24s to finish 2nd. Natasha Wynn was very impressive in her 300m A string with an easy win in 41.44s with Daisy Anderson  in the B string was also 1st in 44.17s. The Sprint hurdles also had the same duo take part, Natasha and Daisy again winning their respective races with 12.32s for Natasha and a wind assisted PB time of: 13.57s for Daisy. In the 800m Natasha again won her A string race comfortably with a time of 2m 23.66s with Jasmine Hall 1st B string in 2m 30.31s. Evie Mosanya ran a PB of 2m 32.36s and Eliza Bridges 2m 37.54s both in the non-scoring 800m. The 1500m race had Bethan Davies win with 4m 57.15s and Tess Noblet also 1st in the B string with 5m 06.96s. Jumping her way to a solid 5.20m was Caitlin in the A string Long Jump with Remi Salako also winning the  B string with 4.93m. Eliza Bridges was 5th in the A string High Jump with 1.25m and Faye Owers recorded a height of 1.20m. Amber Higgs Smith, who has only very recently taking up the Pole Vault, equalled her PB height of 1.80m which gained 1st place. Evanna Eze was 2nd in the Shot Putt with 8.09m with Amber 3rd in the B with 5.55m. In the discus Tess Noblet throw 13.88m and Bethan Davies 11.17m. Tess bettered her PB in the Hammer with  20.94m for 2nd in the A string with Caitlin Hancock recording 14.76m for 2nd in the B string. Amber's last throwing event was the Javelin and she threw 16.15m with Faye Owers throwing 8.30m. The two final events, the 4x100m and 4x300m relays saw the team excel. In the 4x300m ( Evie Mosanya, Eliza Bridges, Daisy Anderson & Natasha Wynn) blew the rest of the field apart and stormed to an almost 13 sec gap with a time of 2m 56.28s which ranks them 5th in the UK. However, that was eclipsed by the 4x100m team (Caitlin Hancock, Evanna Eze, Remi Salako & Nevaeh Johnson), as they ran home 1st in a  time of 49.50s which places them top of the UK rankings.

Lawrence Foster and Alex Osagie in the Under 13 Boys continued to produce top quality sprinting. Lawrence was 1st in the A string 75m with 9.60s whilst in the B Alex recorded his fastest ever (but wind-assisted) time of 9.75s to also win. Aarav Patel and Ethan Rawlings ran in the non-scoring race with times of 11.15s and 11.70s respectively. Lawrence and Alex were in action again in the 150m and again both gained 1st places, 18.54s and a PB and club record for Lawrence with Alex recording a time of 18.90s. The 75m Hurdles saw Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland and Toby Taylor also record a double win, Daniel in 11.87s and Toby in 12.92s. Oskar Prince was the A string 800m runner and recorded a PB time of 2m 42.14s and Okkie Lee  2m 47.20s, while Ethan Rawlings with 2m 53.27s and debutant Reece Napenas with 3m 02.45s ran in the non-scoring event. In the 1200m Tayo Adetona ran 4m 32.88s and debutant Zac Freedman 4m 38.29s. Lawrence, fresh from his sprinting success, also came up trumps in the Long Jump with a PB of 4.53m while Daniel was 1st in the B string with 4.33m. Toby Taylor  continues to develop and recorded a PB in the High Jump of 1.42m as Daniel also recorded a PB of 1.35m. Debutant Harrison Dawe was 3rd in the Shot Put A string with 8.24m and Cristian Scozzari a PB with 5.89m.Tayo Adetona was 5th in the Javelin with a PB of 15.06m and Oskar Prince 2nd in the B string with 9.50m. The final event, the 4x100m, was simply outstanding and the boys team of Toby, Daniel, Alex and Lawrence were too strong for the rest of the field and came flying home in a sub 50 sec time of 49.98s which ranks them No.1 in the UK and was a new Wodford Club record.

The Under 13 Girls team was supported well by the likes of Isabella Moulton, who started with a 2nd place in the A string 75m with 10.33s, and Shantay Charles, making her debut in the B string with 11.32s. Faith Franklin ran her first ever 75m race in the non-scoring event, recording 11.50s. Phoebe Whelan was 6th in the A string 150m in a time of 22.14s and Tare Gabrielle Akpoveta was 2nd in the B string with 21.46s. Isabella again ran the 70m Hurdles and was 2nd in the A string with 11.98s with Tyleah Edwards in 13.79s for 6th in the B. Eva Prince, as her twin brother Oskar had done, ran the 800m A string and finished 5th with a PB of 2m 44.19s and Marissa Higgs-Smith was B string, also with a  PB of 2m 49.48s. Isabella Wheatley ran 2m 55.33 on her debut in the 800m non-scoring event with Simi Adetona also non-scoring with a time of 3m 11.28s. Isla Barron was 6th in the A string 1200m with 4m 45.64s and Aoife Pearce ran 5m 09.24s. Tyleah Edwards recorded a very impressive distance of 3.84m to finish 5th in the A string Long Jump with Eva Prince in the B string with 3.26m for 6th. In the High Jump Isabella equalled her PB height of 1.30m  and was 4th, whilst Phoebe Whelan was 1st in the B string with 1.25m. Tyleah Edwards was 2nd in the A string Shot Put with 7.64m  and Bianca Matos 3.83m. The final field event was the Javelin and Isabelle Stander threw a PB in the A string 15.57m and Marissa Higgs-Smith 9.87m for 3rd in the B string. The 4x100m relay team (Joy Larinde, Isabella Moulton, Tare Gabrielle Akpoveta, Tyleah Edwards) came home in a solid 2nd place behind a very strong Croydon team with a time of 54.93s which ranks them 5th in the UK.

After all this success, this now leaves Team Woodford Green AC with Essex Ladies in a commanding position at the top of the league, and well positioned for Match 3 when we travel to hosts Crawley AC on Saturday 8th July.
