Isabelle Kyson medals in Gothenburg
Isabelle Kyson competed in 3 events at the World Youth Games in Gothenburg over the weekend of 17-19 June.
Day 1
Isabelle competed in her first 300mH race within an upper age category, having only started training for the event two weeks earlier. She was selected for the seeded final and unfortunately, while in a medal position as the bend unfolded at 200m, she stopped at the fifth hurdle. As a newcomer to the event she is yet to master hurdling with her alternate leg, so her choice was to either stutter to lead with her right leg, lead with the left leg or stop. She had to stop, but did step the hurdle and went on to come 7th with a time of 48.24 secs. With the first two athletes finishing sub 45 seconds, Isabelle will take great confidence for this event in the future.
Day 2
Isabelle competed in the 80m sprints and, from 100 athletes representing 10 nations, won her heat with a time of 10.37 secs, then came 4th in the final with 10.43 secs (her heat time would have won her a medal).
Day 3
Competing in her main event, the 300m, she ran just outside her personal best with a time of 41.95 secs, winning a bronze medal. A proud achievement out of a competitive field of 70+ girls from 10 nations. Isabelle had hoped for a faster time but, given the two preceding days of competition, she can be proud of her performance.
Overall, she had an amazing experience competing in the Ullevi Stadium and was extremely proud to been presented with her medal on the infield podium.
