Essex (& Herts) Schools Championships.
Last Saturday a hot but blustery day greeted our athletes representing various districts in the Essex Schools Championships at Chelmsford. The two meets (Essex plus Herts) yielded five county champions plus eight athletes selected to represent Essex at the All England Schools Champs at Manchester next month.
Junior Girls
Caitlin Hancock had not jumped over 5 metres in the long jump before but chose the right day to do so, leaping to a new PB of 5.02m to take gold. Rebecca Wright, enjoying an excellent season, chose the 75 metres hurdles over the shot put to pull off another title with 11.59 secs in the final. Natasha Wynn was another to excel yet again, winning the 800 in 2 mins 16 secs. Isabelle Kyson set a PB in the 300 metres heat of 41.8 secs and then ran 41.9 secs in the final to take silver. Daisy Anderson placed 6th in that final with 45.69 secs after running 45.10 secs in her heat earlier. Two fine 4th spots were achieved by Zoe Hedges, 4th in the 200m final in 27.65 secs after a heat time of 27.33 secs. Grace Olusegen placed 4th in the high jump with 1.47m. Matilda Frith, on a hot day, ran 5 mins 36.4 secs for 12th in the 1500 metres final, just outside her PB. Another bottom year athlete to excel was Eliza Bridges who placed 7th in the 800m final in 2 mins 32.54 secs after running a PB in her heat of 2 mins 31.7 secs. Lilly Spong equaled her 200m PB in the heats with 29.62 secs.
Following on from these results, Natasha Wynn (800m) Isabelle Kyson (300m) and Rebecca Wright (75mH) have each been selected for Essex in the English Schools. Hopefully in 12 months time Caitlin Hancock will make her debut at these champs.

Following on from this Abigail Reid , who was unable to compete due to a clash with a Duke of Edinburgh weekend, was neverthless selected for the 1500m at the English Schools as she had already acieved the national standard for that event with 4 mins 38.72secs.

Alex Foster, who is enjoying a fine season, chose the 200m and, after a 23.60 secs heat, later won the final in great style in 23.70 secs. Lucas Emeagi and Thomas Kirkland both ran the 300m heats to qualify easily for the final. In the final Lucas ran a PB 37.13 to win from Thomas who clocked 38.02 secs - fine running by both lads. In the 800 metres Harry Stockill must have been in the toughest heat for 5th place but still came away with yet another PB of 2 mins 15.02s. In the 1500 metres Luka Norden held on well for 7th out of 18 runners for another PB of 4 mins 39.2. Both these lads are bottom year runners in this age group.
Following on from this both Alex and Lucas have been selected for the English Schools and Thomas must consider himself unlucky not to be joining them.
