RUN, JUMPED AND THREW OUR WAY TO A MASSIVE WIN

Last Sunday after a period of waiting 3 years, WGEL Juniors returned to the YDL Lower in the normal structured league format at a very sunny Eltham, hosted by Cambridge Harriers, and stormed to a comfortable victory. The scores are below:

1) WGEL AC -                691 Points

The Under 15 boys was lead by Alex Foster and Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland who have accomplished so much so far in their career of athletics. Alex ran 100m in: 12.0sec for 2nd and Thomas: 12.07sec for a PB. Alex and Thomas doubled up for the 200m and both came away with PB's for Alex: 23.05sec and 1st whilst Thomas was 2nd in a PB of: 24.29sec. They continued the theme of pairing up with the long jump. This time Thomas was a-string with 1st: 5m 25cm and Alex leaped: 4m 67cm again for 1st b-string. In the other sprinting event of 300m, ever impressive Lucas Emeagi was in fine form with a very good PB of: 37.82sec and 1st and Gregor Samson completed the line up with 3rd in: 44.20sec and a PB. Gregor also did the 800m with Max Koschek. Gregor was b-string with a time of: 2m 24.79sec, while Max performed well in a-string 800 with a PB of: 2m 19.50sec. Gregor's other track event was the 80m Hurdles and a PB was there for him with 3rd a-string: 15.55sec. Leo Everitt was also in action in hurdles with a time of: 17.12sec and 3rd place. Leo Everitt also on a last minute call up helped the team with a hammer throw of: 4m 47cm bearing in mind he had never done it before. This was the same for Joseph Arnold who had only practised it at the club a couple of days earlier but was 1st in a-string with a good throw of: 15m 96cm. Jospeh also did the discus b-string with: 13m 05cm. In the 800m non scoring event, Patrick Hayden and Oliver Brown ran with times of: 2m 30.87 & 2m 31.41sec respectively. Harry Stockill and Luka Norden ran the longer distance of 1500m. Harry 3rd in a-string with a PB of: 4m 43.54sec and Luka making his debut was 1st b-string in a time of: 4m 47.05sec. Milan Andrews did the shot putt and was 3rd with: 7m 99cm, whislt Harry was 1st b-string with: 6m 69cm. Milan also did the a-string discus with a PB and 1st place in a-string: 21m 63cm and Javelin: 20m 99cm, Oliver Brown was b-string in the same event with: 14m 52cm. In the 4x100m relay made up of 2 sprinters and 2 middle distance runners the team did themselves proud and came home 3rd in: 51.35sec (Harry Stockill, Luka Norden, Alex Foster & Thomas Niewczasinski-Kirkland). Their final event was the 4x300m (Patrick Hayden, Max Kosckek, Oliver Brown & Lucas Emeagi), they finished 3rd with a time of: 3m 03.65sec.

Grace Olusegun and Zoe Hedges ran the 100m's for the under 15 girls and Grace was 3rd a-string with: 13.89sec whilst Zoe was 2nd b-string with: 13.63sec. Zoe ran the 200m's as well and again recorded 2nd this time in a-string with: 27.65sec, while Eliora Arthur-Kennedy was 3rd in b-string with: 28.85sec. The non scoring 100m runners of Amana Oguntuga & Lilly Spong recorded a time of: 13.90sec and 14.47sec. In the 300m's it was welcome return to league competition for Isabelle Kyson and she was in fine form finishing 1st in a time of: 43.09sec and Daisy Anderson ran a superb PB in b-string race with a time of: 44.19sec. Daisy also stepped in to take part in the b-string 75m hurdles and another PB and 2nd place with: 14.72sec. Isabelle Kyson continued her good return with 1st in the a-string of the same race with: 12.01sec. In the middle distance races, Eliza Bridges ran a PB of: 2m 34.50sec and Ella Traynor was the b-string athlete with: 2m 59.18sec. Amber Higgs-Smith ran a non-scoring 800m with: 2m 56.96sec. In the 1500m we had Tess Noblet: 5m 29.40sec and Matilda Frith: 5m 34.46sec. In the field events Demi Salako had a PB in the long jump with: 4m 31cm and Lexi Gobran also recorded a PB in the b-string with: 3m 58cm. High jump see Grace Olusegun jumped: 1m 30cm and 3rd, while Eliza Bridges equaled her PB clearance of: 1m 25cm. Rebecca Wright unable to do any running due to a slight injury was 1st in shot putt with: 10m 25cm and 1st again in Javelin with: 28m 85cm. Amber Higgs-Smith was b-string in shot and was 3rd in b-string with: 4m 68cm and b-string javelin: 9m 46cm. Grace also did the discus with Tess Noblet. Grace was 4th in a-string in a new PB: 13m 12cm and Tess was 1st b-string: 13m 05cm. The only other field event see Demi Salako & Lexie Gobran step in to gain points for the club and Demi threw: 14m 52cm for 2nd a-string with Lexie: 6m 68cm and 2nd b-string. In the 4x100m relay(Zoe Hedges, Lexie Gobran, Grace Olusegun & Isabelle Kyson) ran a very impressive race coming home 1st with a time of: 52.94sec and the 4x300m team of (Lilly Spong, Eliza Bridges, Amana Oguntuga & Daisy Anderson) were 2nd with a time of: 3m 05.43.

The under 13 boys were very well stacked with talent non more so than Callum Clydesdale who ran the 75m in a time of: 10.12sec and 1st with Riley Michaels b-string of: 10.67sec. Callum also went on to do the 150m's in a new PB of: 18.90sec and 1st and also a 1st in the high jump with: 1m 33cm. Lawrence Foster and Oskar Kyson ran the 75m non-scoring with times of: 10.67sec and 10.86sec and a PB. The long distances of 800m see Daniel Arnold come 2nd in a-string with a new PB of: 2m 35.54sec and Tayon Adetona was 1st b-string with: 2m 57.37sec. In the non-scoring 800m, Toby Taylor ran: 2m 51.58sec and Zac Everitt ran a PB with: 2m 57.37sec. Zac although falling in the 75m hurdles got up and continued on to come 4th in b-string with: 21.24sec. Daniel Niewczasinski-Kirkland seems to be stepping into his older brothers footsteps with a very impressive debut in the a-string 75m hurdles finishing 1st with: 13.66sec. In the 1200m Teddy Newson was 2nd a-string: 3m 59.18sec and Charlie Howes ran a time of: 4m 27.82 for 1st b-string in his debut run for the club. Toby Taylor did exceptionally well in the long jump a-string with a winning jump of: 4m 33cm and Riley Michaels 1st b-string: 4m 31cm. Teddy also competed in a field event jumping: 1m 20cm in b-string high jump and 1st. Debutant William Stander was very pleased with his 1st place in a-string shot: 7m 51cm and 1st place b-string Javelin: 15m 32cm. Riley did the b-string shot with again another 1st place: 4m 81cm. In the Javelin a-string another debutant Kian Traynor was 1st a-string: 16m 49cm. Their last event was the track 4x100m (Riley Michaels, Lawrence Foster, Toby Taylor & Callum Clydesdale), this was simply stunning as the team stormed to victory by over 5 secs in a time of: 53.17sec.

In the under 13 girls team they were not to be outdone by either and starting of were Azzurra Cioni who ran a PB in the 75m with: 10.50sec and 3rd, while Esmae Mahalingham was also 3rd with: 11.36sec. Tyleah Edwards: 11.35sec and a PB ran with Isabella Moulton: 11.51sec in the 75m non-scoring event. In the 150 metres another talented athlete emerging with Evanna Eze who won by nearly a second in the 150m with a time of: 20.10sec, she also did the long jump b-string with: 3m 50cm. Esmae Mahalingham is also continuing to gain confidence with her athletics. She was b-string 150m and was 2nd with: 21.71sec, and a PB in the 75m hurdles 2nd place a-string time of: 12.95sec. Isabella Moulton was b-string in the same event also with a PB in: 13.69sec. In the 800m Faye Owers continues to lower her PB time in the event with: 2m 38.39sec and 2nd a-string with Tiana Donkor was 4th b-string: 2m 57.15sec. The 1200m Isla Fulling was 3rd a-string: 4m 34.85sec and Marissa Higgs-Smith: 4m 35.75sec and 2nd place of b-string. Marissa also did the Javelin b-string and threw: 7m 17cm for 4th. In the Long Jump A-string Azzurra Cioni was 1st with a leap of: 4m 02cm. The high Jump see Faye take to this for the first time with a 2nd place a-string of: 1m 21cm and Emily Stockill equalled her PB in the b-string with: 1m 10cm. In the Shot Putt Tyleah Edwards was 3rd with: 5m 95cm and a PB with Lara Kirby who came 3rd in b-string with: 4m 81cm. Lara also did the a-string Javelin and finished 4th with: 8m 83cm. They rounded their events off with a very impressive 4x100m relay (Azzurra Cioni, Remi Salako, Esmae Mahalingham & Evanna Eze) coming home 1st by over 4 seconds in a time of: 54.34sec.

The team have started so well and the talent is so clear to see, from running to jumping and throwing, a multi events talented group of youngsters that can only but improve from here onward. Next stop is the 2nd league match on HOME SOIL on Saturday 21st May. GO TEAM WOODFORD.
