Essex Pentathlon title for Rebecca Wright
Rebecca Wright took part in her first outdoor Pentathlon at a windswept Lee Valley against 14 other Under 15 girls.
Having already annexed the National Indoor U15 Shot Put title earlier this year Rebecca made a solid start in the first discipline, the long jump, with 4.61 which left her third overall. The next two events would see Rebecca take a commanding lead as she won the 75 metre hurdles in 11.88 before winning the Shot with 11.02 metres. Rebecca is ranked top 3 for both of these events in the UK for U15 girls. So the afternoon started with the High Jump in very blustery conditions - not ideal for this discipline. Rebecca jumped 1.35 metres to be 6th in this event but still held into her overall lead. This is something that her coach will need to address going forward if she is to get the top level in this event. The final discipline was the 800m, and Rebecca ran the perfect race to come off the final bend and sprint to a good win in her race for another PB of 2 minutes 41 seconds which placed her second in this event to maintain her overall lead and win the county title by over 150 points.
Rebecca will now join the middle distance groups in weeks to come to improve on her 800 metres. Maia Fisher also took part in her very first multi events champs and she should be pleased with 7th Spot in the U17 women’s. Last year Maia was very highly ranked in the UK for the hurdles and is working hard to improve on other disciplines.
