MARY JOHN SETS CLUB RECORD AND BETTERS EURO JUNIOR QUALIFYING MARK

Amongst the many decent Woodford performances reported on below from Sunday’s meeting at Hornchurch the outstanding effort came from U/20 athlete Mary John. In her debut over 400m Mary ran a superb race finishing very strongly, winning by 4 seconds to record a time of 54.05 secs. That mark in addition to currently heading the UK U/20 rankings improves the Woodford Club record by one second and is inside the UKA qualifying mark for the European Junior Championships later this season. Mary has shown glimpses of her potential recently with good marks indoors and out over 60m and 200m in 2020’s Covid affected season. Last weekend at Lee Valley there was an indication of her potential over 400m when she recorded a 38.37 secs over 300m, the fastest by a UK U/20 since 2017.
