Track & Field Update

Several Woodford athletes were in action at the National U/20 and U/23 Championships at Bedford over the weekend. Performances were led by gold medals for hurdlers Jack Lawrie and Cameron Fillery, plus a silver for Sam Khogali and bronze for Canaan Solomon.

In blustery conditions at Bedford Jack Lawrie, who had won a silver medal in this same competition last season, this time won the U/23 title over 400mH with a time of 51.39 secs. Cameron Fillery’s title came over 110mH, where he won in 14.12 secs (+0.2), just outside his recently set personal best of 14.08 secs in the BAL at Cardiff. Sam Khogali picked up a silver medal with a leap of 7.28m (0.0) in the U/23 long jump, and there was a further medal, bronze, for Canaan Solomon who finished 3rd in a tactical U/23 800m with 1m52.40 secs, whilst in the women’s equivalent Anna Clark was 5th with 2m11.23 secs.Anna Clark UKWL 2 2018

Kaesi Opara made it through to the semi-finals of the U/23 100m where his 10.81 secs (+1.5) placed him 6th. There was a silver medal for HCA member Jenna Wrisberg in the women’s U/23 100m with 11.78 secs (+0.3), whilst other HCA members Matthew Arnold and Declan Gall were each fourth, Matthew in the 3000m s/ch with 9m24.27 secs, and Declan in the U/20 400mH with 52.27 secs.

Overseas, Omololu Abiodun, coming back from injury, had his first race of the season in Linz, Austria on Sunday and placed 5th over 200m with 22.13 secs (-0.1), whilst another HCA member, Revee Walcott-Nolan, was close to her best ever in Germany where she placed 2nd over 800m with 2m02.46 secs.
