South of England Indoor Champs
A number of Woodford athletes competed in the South of England Indoor Championships held at Lee Valley over the weekend. There were titles for Kiity Eleyae, Thalosang Tshireletso, Canaan Solomon and a silver for Robert Wolski.
A week after placing 2nd in the Essex County U/17 Cross Country Championships, first year track U/20 Canaan Solomon (pictured right) showed his intentions for a fine track season to come, as he took the South of England U/20 800m title with a personal best time of 1m51.04 secs. Also winning a title in a personal best was Thalosang Tshireletso, who took the senior men's triple jump title with his best ever leap of 15.38m. Another winning a jumping title was Kitty Eleyae, who took the senior women's long jump with 5.64m, whilst former high jump winner Robert Wolski had to settle for silver on this occasion with 2.04m.
Others competing included Azaria Francis, who progressed to a 4th place in the 60m where she recorded 8.10 secs, after 7.95 secs in the heat. In the men's 60m Justin Duru recorded 7.22 secs. Over 800m, Paul Scanlan placed 5th in the final with 1m58.23 secs, having done well to qualify with a 1m54.27 heat clocking. In the U/20 men's high jump, Scott Webster was 6th with 1.80m.
In the US, and racing for his University, 200m specialist Sam Watts recorded 7.03 secs for 60m, and then contributed a 46.57 secs second leg on his 4x400m team, whilst in Athlone, Ireland Colm Burke opened his indoor season by winning the long jump with 6.99m
