South of England U15 / U17 Championships

Zac Islam-Moore was the club’s only winner at the South of England U15 / U17 Championships at Lee Valley on 9-10 Jan. U15 boy Zac won the gold medal in the 300m in 38.93, having earlier recorded the fastest qualifying time of 39.33, leading throughout in both races. In the U17 men’s 60m, Jos Farquharson finished fourth, in 7.23, having improved his PB in the semi-final to 7.20. Ola Ogunade was eliminated in the semi-finals (7.61) having qualified automatically from the heats.

Kyesha Robinson had the challenging experience of racing 3 rounds of 400m in just over 2 hours in her first outing in the U17 women’s age group. She finished 5th in a quality final, which saw the winner record the fastest time in over 2 years indoors or out (55.97) for a distance that the age group do not normally contest in championships. Kyesha’s final time of 60.53 was only marginally slower than her front running performances in the heat (60.50PB) and semi-final (60.51). Millie Finch recorded 66.94 in the heats of the same event. In the U17 women’s 60m Rebecca Fafowara narrowly failed to qualify from the heats in her first attempt at the distance (8.38) and Precious Ajayi recorded 8.76.
