Lea Valley Minithon / Metaswitch Games
A number of our young athletes competed at two events at Lee Valley at the weekend - the Minithon on Saturday and the Metaswitch Games on Sunday.
5 athletes proudly represented the Club at the Minithon. The Minithon gives young athletes a choice of three indoor events and is a nice introduction to competition.
In the Boys year 4 and 5 Category, Jimmy Geller of Woodford Wasps won the 600m, being very pleased with a PB of 1:56.2. Moreover, whilst not being a sprinter, he also achieved good PBs with his 60m and 200m times.
In the Girls year 4 and 5, Bronya Overington of Woodford Wasps will be very pleased with her 600m - 4th in her race and 5th overall with a new PB of 2:18.1. Bronya was also very pleased with her 60m and Long Jump.
Possibly in his last event as a Wasp, Kaidan Chambers saved himself for his sprinting events only, and ran very well for 8.8 in his 60m and also produced a PB of 29.0, coming second overall, in the 200m. A great achievement, as he is a lower year boy in this category.
Luke Finch, also a lower year boy in the 6 and 7 category, threw a new PB of 4m41 in the Shot, jumped well, and, whilst he is concentrating on throwing, still had the energy to be the sole WGEL representative in the 600m for that category. Mia Islam-Moore, our girls 6 and 7 representative, should be happy with her 9.3 PB in the 60m.
Well done to all, and thanks to all the Woodford Green coaches and officials who volunteer to make these events so enjoyable for the kids. (report sent in by a grateful parent!)
We also had a few representatives at the Metaswitch Games on Sunday at Lee Valley: Phoebe Fuhr, Lacey Fuhr, Ella Warwick (U17W 200m); Thomas Finch, Kyle Lundie (U17M 200m); Millie Finch (U17W - 200M); Zahara Malcolm (U13G/60M/200M) plus Owen Armstrong (SM 200M) and Tyler Bown (SM 200M); also 60M for Jos Farquarson and Ola Ogunade (U17M).
