Track & Field Round-Up
There were some good performances from Woodford athletes over the weekend, led by further personal bests for leading juniors Joseph Dewar and Daniel Rowden, and also from HCA member Jack Lawrie (pictured left).
Competing for the GB junior team in the Mannheim international meeting over the weekend, Joseph Dewar raced over 100m with a comfortable win in his heat, as he equalled his personal best with 10.41 secs (-0.5), and then later won the final setting a new personal best of 10.34 secs (+0.1), setting a new Club U/20 record. He then ran the first leg on the winning GB 4x100m relay team.
Also competing for GB juniors in Mannheim was HCA member Jack Lawrie. Last weekend at Bedford he had won the national 400mH title, agonisingly close to the 51.80 secs qualifying mark for the European Junior Championships, but this weekend in placing 2nd he gained that qualifying mark with a personal best of 51.77 secs. Jack will now be hoping to be added to the GB team for those Championships, which Joseph is already selected for.
Another junior chasing selection was Daniel Rowden who placed 2nd last weekend at Bedford, but still short of the 1m49.0 secs qualifying mark. On Saturday evening he raced in the BMC Grand Prix at Watford and placed 3rd in the "B" 800 and although setting a personal best of 1m49.32 secs, was just outside his target.
Several others were in action at Bedford, over 800m Canaan Soloman was close to his best ever as he placed 8th in the "D" race with 1m52.79 secs, and Paul Scanlan was 5th in the "F" race with 1m54.22 secs. Also close to her best was Megan Edwards who finished 4th in the women's "B" race with 2m 06.59 secs. Over 1500m Jon Cook showed good form placing 11th in a good quality "A" race with 3m43.40 secs. James Stockings (pictured right) set a personal best of 3m52.36 secs, and Ed Shepherd was close to his best ever with 3m53.11 secs.
Several other Woodford athletes competed at the LICC meeting at Copthall. Over 100m U/17 Shayne Dewar placed 2nd in his 100m race with 11.03 secs w (+2.4), Adrian Stamp was 6th with 11.28 secs w (+3.2), U/15 Keysha Robinson won her race with 12.66 secs w (+2.4), whilst U/17 Tolu Adebambo-Abisogun recorded a season's best of 13.90 secs (+0.9). Shayne also raced over 200m where he placed 5th with 22.43 secs (-0.6), as did Kyesha with her fastest ever, but windy time of 26.01 secs w (+2.6), and Tolu who recorded 28.95 secs w (+2.3). HCA member Jo Ryan recorded a season's best of 24.73 secs w (+2.2), and also 57.44 secs over 400m. In the triple jump Christman Ihuoma recorded a personal best of 13.43m (+0.5), and Youcef Zatat won the shot with a put of 16.55m, with Harry Clarke winning the hammer with 56.13m.
At the Eastern Counties Championships, Hugh Williams (pictured below, left) won his first senior title, taking the shot put in 11.92m.
