Track & Field Round-Up - Updated

This weekend saw Woodford athletes in the UK in action at County Championships where, in the Essex Championships, emphatic wins in the junior 100m for Joseph Dewar and the U/17 800m for Canaan Soloman were two of the highlights. Others were in action elsewhere both at home and abroad.

Racing at the Essex County Championships at Chelmsford over the weekend, Joseph Dewar followed up on his good run last weekend at the Loughborough International with a clear win, by half a second in the junior 100m as he recorded a time of 10.54 secs (+0.2). Joseph's younger brother Shayne picked up two silvers in the U/17 sprints, with 11.21 secs (+0.5) over 100m and a personal best of 22.49 secs over 200m. In the senior men's 100m, HCA member Jermaine Hamilton took gold in 10.85 secs (+0.3)ahead of Olumide Ogunstein with 10.89 secs, and Stefan Redmond 3rd in 11.63 secs.

Canaan Soloman's win came in the U/17 800m, where he front ran a personal best of 1m52.64 secs to take victory and close in on training partner Daniel Rowden's Woodford Club U/17 record. D Rowden by T McCarthy 1Daniel himself (pictured left), who had improved his own personal best at Watford during the week with 1m50.84 secs, and although a first year U/20, raced in the senior 800m where he placed 2nd with 1m51.92 secs., ahead of Paul Scanlan in 4th with a pb of 1m53.82 secs, James Stockings was 6th with 1m58.59 secs, and Tom Phillips 7th with 1m59.36 secs. Tom also competed over 3000m which he won in 8m58.94 secs, with Angus Holford 5th with 9m13.42 secs, and over 1500m where Tom was 3rd in 4m01.06 secs, and Angus 4th in 4m05.82 secs. Over 5000m Donatas Tumaitis was 5th with 16m01.92 secs. Amongst the younger athletes there were two medals for Kyesha Robinson with gold in the U/15 300m with 42.22secs, and also bronze over 200m with 26.22 secs, and two golds for U/13 Boy Sidne Ward, in the 200m with 27.71 secs (-2.6) and 800m with 2m17.84 secs, where Liam Waldron was 9th with 2m38.36 secs. In the U/17 400m there was a bronze for Adrian Mountford with 51.21 secs, with Kyle Lundie 8th with 56.75 secs. In the heats of the 100m and 200m Sam Baker recorded 12.45 secs (-0.1) and 25.02 secs (-0.7) respectively. In the U/15 age group over 800m Todd Maleary was 10th with 2m37.18 secs, whilst over 1500m Joseph Gelber was 7th with 4m46.60 secs, and Hayden Maleary 11th with 5m20.18 secs. There were two V35 medals for Alan James, over 100m with 12.51 secs (nwi) and over 300m with 40.13 secs.

Amongst the women and girls, there were two titles for HCA member Jo Ryan in the senior 200m and 400m with times of 25.57 secs (nwi) and 56.48 secs. U/20 Anna Clark was 3rd over 1500m with 4m40.45 secs, and in the U/17 300m Tolu Abiogun recorded 46.25 secs in the heats. In the U/15's 800m Holly Hembury was 10th with 2m37.71 secs, but was faster in her qualifying heat with 2m31.59 secs. In the 1500m Louise Gilbert was 7th with 5m04.63 secs, having been marginally faster in her heat with 5m04.17 secs, whilst Siena Taylor recorded 5m20.78 secs in the heats. In the 300m Olivia Corbett palced 4th with 11m57.27 secs. In the U/13 800m and 11500m Georgina Handful recorded times of 2m50.89 secs and 5m34.21 secs.

In the field Chris Linque took the senior men's discus with 43.10m ahead of Devon Douglas in 2nd with 42.16m, and Hugh Williams 4th with 33.74m. Hugh pictured below) was also 2nd in the shot with 11.76m and 4th in the hammer with 31.64, with Vet Fergus Harford 3rd with 35.12, and Harry Clark 2nd with 58.09m. In the women's shot Hollie Redman took gold with 11.67m and again in the discus with 46.04m, and Eike Vaidja silver in the javelin with 32.38m. Anastasia Contantides was 5th in the U/20 women's discus with 21.62m. Scott Webster took silver as he was 2nd in the U/17 high jump with 1.85m, and in the U/17 shot Boris Bozhkov was 4th with 11.53m. The women's U/17 hammer saw Stephanie Howe place 3rd with 49.75m and Amy Gilbert 4th with 41.19mH Williams by T McCarthy 1

Competing in the Devon Championships Simon Bennett again won the javelin title, this time with 60.41m. At the Middlesex Chamionships in the women's 400mH there was a close tussle between two HCA members, as Gemma Rous just edged Gemma Weetman, 60.18 secs, to 60.63 secs, personal bests for both athletes. In the Scottish Western District Championships, Jack Lochans took the high jump title with 2.00m, and in the Eastern Championship, Ewan Dyer the 400m with 49.53 secs. 

Overseas, at Tourcoing, France, Zainab Ceesay recorded 12.45m (+0.6) for 7th in the triple jump, whilst in Germany at Rehlingen Tim Abeyie had to contend with a strong headwind as he raced over 100m and recorded 10.80 secs (-2.9) for 3rd. Also in Germany at Frankisch-Crumbach in the hammer, Mark Dry recorded 73.16m, and HCA member Myra Perkins 57.31m in the women's event.
