SE England Inter-Counties XC Years 7 & 8 boys and girls

12 year old Sidnie Ward, in his first race for Essex, had an excellent run from 100 runners to claim an excellent bronze medal in the Year 7 boys race over 3k. Sidnie, who had been unwell last week and on antibiotics, really wanted to race.

He was always with the leading group and, as the race progressed, two Surrey runners and Sidnie broke away and it came down to a sprint finish with only two seconds covering all three runners.

In the Year 8 boys race over 3.5K, Hayden Maleary, who is currently suffering from Osgoods Slatter, bravely finished in 27th place out of 80 runners and 3rd Essex runner to cross the line. His twin brother Todd, who had his first Essex call-up, ran well for 50th and 9th Essex runner.

In the Year 8 girls, Hannah Page was 51st over 3k and was 10th Essex runner to cross the line. Hannah improved by over 30 places from last year's performance in the Year 7 girls race.
