World Schools Title for Joseph Dewar

Competing for England Schools at the World Schools Championships in Sokolov in the Czech Republic, 17 year old Joseph Dewar who is coached at Woodford by Gladys Bird, made a significant improvement to win the long jump title with a new personal best of 7.36m (-0.4). Sadly for Joseph, who has had to nurse himself carefully back to competition after injuring a hamstring in the first BAL meeting, and despite exceeding the British Athletics criteria of 7.25m his performance came a day too late to be considered for selection for the World Youth (U/18) Championships. The mark also equalled the 24 year old Club Junior record that has stood to Junior Cmapbell since 1989.
