European Championships, Helsinki
Three WGEL athletes were selected for the European Championships in Helsinki as members of a GB & NI Team that in the main were still searching for qualification performances for the London 2012 Olympic Games. All Woodford athletes found the going tough. In the women's 100m heats, Bejing Olympic finalist Jeanette Kwakye finished a disappointed 7th with 11.98 secs (-0.3), a long way from her best as she struggled with continuing injury problems. In the hammer qualification, Mark Dry was behind his recent consistent form and his distance of 70.27m was some way short of qualifying. Richard Alleyne too was down on his early season form as he finished 5th in is heat with 14.02 secs (+1.1) and missed out on progressing any further.
