Woodford's senior women enjoyed a tough return to the UK Women's League Premier Division after their promotion in 2016. As with the men in Sheffield , they had to contend with cool and windy conditions on their trip to Birmingham on Saturday. However, with several athletes unavailable, and despite the great efforts from those who did make the trip, Woodford could only finish in 8th place on the day with 112 points, immediately behind Blackheath on 126.5 and Shaftesbury on 154 as TVH won with 234.5 ahead of Edinburgh with 217 reigning champions Birchfield 215, Windsor 179, and Swansea 168. The hammer was Woodford's best event on the day with Myra Perkins and Lucy Marshall, but it was notable that the team rallied round to cover events due to others' unavailability.
Woodford men’s BAL team had a solid start to the 2017 Premiership season at Sheffield on Saturday. After a 3rd place overall in the division in 2016, a 4th place on Saturday was a reasonable start to the new season, especially as some key athletes were missing. Birchfield won with 311 points, from Newham, 303, Sheffield 296, Woodford 271, Shaftesbury and TVH each on 261, Southampton 253 and Liverpool 215. The cold and blustery conditions were not conducive to top class performances but nevertheless there were some decent ones from Woodford athletes, including personal bests for both Adam Kirk-Smith and Phil Norman as they took a double win in the steeplechase. There was a further double in the 800m from Dan Rowden and Cannan Solomon, and also a good shot win from Youcef Zatat.
A number of Woodford athletes were competing for their universities at Bedford over the bank holiday weekend at the British Universities Championships (BUCS). Several good performances were led by a win from Youcef Zatat and two 2nd places from Che Richards and Anna Nelson, there was also news of Woodford athletes competing in the US.
