Amongst the highlights was a senior shot and discus double from Devon Douglas in his first year in the age group, and fine pb's by under 20 throwers Anthony Oshodi and Peter Clarke. There were also some fine middle distance performances led by Jessica and Ronnie Sparke, and some good sprinting. Two Club U/20 records were broken, and one U/17 record was equalled.

National Young Athletes League

National Young Athletes’ League, Southern Premier Ashton Playing Fields
3rd May 2009

It was a baptism of fire for many of our enthusiastic young members on Sunday. Despite having home advantage we repeated last year's opening result by coming 4th.  With four league matches remaining  it is going to require a supreme effort to ensure WGEL retain our Premiership status. There are still many excellent individual results to report. The team managers nominated Katherine Birch and Peter Kirabo to receive the club Athlete of the Match T-shirt awards.

British Universities Championships

Competing at Bedford in this weekend's British Universities Championships there were gold medals for Tara Bird and Kim Murray and a silver for Alastair Williamson, with several other WGwEL athletes also in action for their universities.
