Aviva London Grand Prix

A number of WGwEL athletes were in action at Crystal Palace at the Aviva London Grand Prix on Friday evening and on Saturday.

Recent European U/23 medalist, Callum Priestley made the 110mH Final where he placed 7th in 13.81 secs (-2.2) after recording 13.76 secs (-1.8) in qualifying. In the women's 100mH, Olympic Finalist Sarah Claxton recorded her fastest time of the season of 13.11 secs (-0.7) for 8th. Nusrat Ceesay was 8th in the 400mH with 58.98 secs, and Joice Maduaka recorded 11.85 secs (-1.4) in the 100m heats. HCA 800m man Damien Moss recorded a pb over 800m of 1m47.29 secs for 7th.

In the development "On Camp with Kelly" 800m Tara Bird was 6th in 2m03.84 secs, and in the National U/20 3000m Championships, held in conjunction with the Grand Prix, recent English Schools 1500m Champion Alex Cornwell recorded a pb of 8m27.84 secs for 9th, as Georgie-Lou Sales placed 14th in the women's event with 10m02.94 secs.


European U/20 Championships Day3

Junior Ejehu missed a place in the final of the 200m today by just 0.02 secs after placing 4th in his semi-final with 21.24 secs (+1.8). Both Junior and 100m bronze medalist, Eugene Ayanful are expected to be part of the GB&NI 4x100m relay team which competes tomorrow.

European Junior Championships Day 2

ImageEugene Ayanful, has this evening picked a superb bronze medal over 100m at the European Junior Chapionships in Novi Sad, Serbia. Eugene clocked a lifetime best of 10.37 secs (+0.2) the same time as fellow Briton Andrew Robertson in 4th. The race was won by the French athlete Christophe Lemaitre who recorded a new European Junior record of 10.04 secs. Eugene's time is a new WGwEL U/20 record, erasing Tyrone Edgar's mark of 10.39 secs. Eugene is now ranked 18th on the UK all-time U/20 list, interestingly equal with Olympic 200m silver medalist Darren Campbell. Later, in the the 200m, Junior Ejehu comfortably qualified for tomorrow's semi-final, as he too clocked a lifetime best of 21.19 secs (+0.5) for 2nd in his heat.

European Junior Championships Day 1

WGwEL's Eugene Ayanful was in action today in Novi Sad, Serbia on the first day of the European U/20 Championships. Eugene, who improved dramatically to 10.44 secs over 100m at Bedford recently when qualifying for these Championships, but suffered a slight injury to his hamstring in the final of the 200m at those trials, qualified this morning for this evening's semi-final as he placed 3rd in his heat with 10.63 secs into a strong headwind of -1.5 m/s. He then placed 2nd in his semi-final in 10.47 secs (-1.3) to gain automatic qualification for tomorrow's final. Eugene was the 2nd fastest of all the qualifiers and has drawn lane six for the final which will include all three British representatives.
