Tough day at the office for YDL Lower

On Saturday the YDL Lower age group started their campaign at home on a very blustery day. Having secured promotion last year they were taking on stiffer opposition in more ways than one, and together with some athletes not available to compete due to them running at the London mini-marathon the following day they were still able to finish 4th on the day:

The U/13 Boys did really well with a very small squad, with debutants galore. Ethan Franklin was the standout athlete. He ran 13.08s in the 100m a briiliant 200m - 26.7s  PB,and also a PB with a massive jump in the Long Jump: 4m 74cm. Jean Marc Harriott ran a good 100m: 14.52s a high jump of: 1m 15cm and long jump of: 3m 63cm. Godwinner Nkebani ran 29.8s for the 200m, a solid 800m in 2m 45.29s and 75m hurdles: 15.8s., while Oscar Farthing-Barbero a 1500m: 5m 16.42s and a PB, and the shot putt: 4m 12cm. The final athlete was Gregor Samson who did the B string 1500m in 5m 34.91s and the javelin with a throw of 7m 63cm. They then rounded it of with an impressive 4x100m (Jean Marc, Godwinner, Ethan & Gregor), finishing 1st in a time of 54.96s.

Kaidan Chambers led by experience in the U/15 Boys with a PB in the 100m: 11.93s and also did the same PB in the 200m: 24.89s. Luke Finch went one better with 3 PB's in the throws: 7m 07cm in the shot putt, 18m 85cm in the discus and a very impressive 35m 01cm in the hammer. Miles Whitchelo recorded a PB in the 100m with: 13.82s and 11m 60cm in the discus. Thomas and William Kok also did multiple events between them. Thomas: 47.64cm in the 300m, and 5.99cm in the javelin. while William did: 28.5s in the 200m and 2m 31.85s in the 800m. Daniel Raymond, another debutant, did very well: 300m in a time of 39.58s and a very good 800m in 2m 16.55s. Even though competing in the mini-marathon the next day, Reuben Fabian chipped in with a javelin throw of 18m 84cm and a long jump of 4m 03cm. Ben Savidge ran the B string 1500m in a PB time of 5m 03.74s. The team then had 2 relays which saw them finish 6th in the 4x100m (Daniel, Thomas, Miles & Kaidan) in: 53.14s and the 4x300m (Evan, Ben, William and Daniel) with a time of: 3m 10.64s.

The U/13 Girls was led by a classy young athlete, Abigail Reid, who competed in impressive style in the 1200m with a time of 3m 52.01s for 1st, then went on to win the borough mini-marathon the following day. There were a few debutantes as well for this team. Benie Massembo ran the 75m in 10.85s and the 150m in 21.52s. Lexie Gobran ran the 75m in 12.47s and the 70m hurdles in 17.08s. Isabelle Kyson did the 150m B string in a great PB time of: 21.99s and high jump: 1m 10cm. Talia Woolf ran a 75m non-scoring PB time of: 12.2s. Emily Millward achieved a PB in the 800m in: 2m 46.81s, long jump: 2m 99cm and javelin: 7m 21cm. Rosie Dean also competed in the 75m as a non-scorer with a time of: 12.4s and a javelin throw of: 6m 16cm. Maya McNelis ran a 800m in: 3m 10.19sand 70m hurdles: 16.07s. Molly Wain did the long jump: 3m 02cm, shot putt with a distance of: 4m 88cm and a 800m: 3m 03.85s, and Rose Grady also ran the 800m: 3m 06.48s. Helping out Abigail in the 1200m was Tilly Major who ran a good race as well in a time of: 4m 10.23s. The 4x100m relay team (Benie, Tilly, Abigail & Isabelle) ran really well finishing 2nd in: 58.31s.

In the U/15 Girls Shona Vincent was in great form with a 100m: 12.68s and a26.25s in the 200m. Tiya Canning Lawrence recorded a PB in the 100m: 13.46s, the long jump: 3m 46cm. Victoria Zlatkovsky ran a non-scoring 100m in: 14.03s with Charlotte Seaton who ran 13.65s, who also did the 75m hurdles in 14.25s. Kharina Anne Partridge ran the A string of the hurdles in 13.36s and did the high jump with a clearance of 1m 35cm. Levania Ugonna Mba ran the 200m in: 29.17s. Kezia Beeton was in good form on the track with a: 44.97s in the 300m, 800m: 2m 33.04s and a PB in the long jump with: 4m 56cm. Zahara Malcolm was working very hard on the track: 2m 30.41s in the 800m, and 44.52s in the 300m. Bronya Overington and Rachael Lam ran the 1500m respectively in times of: 5m 47.65s PB and 5m 58.83s. Gbemi Majekodunmi competed in 3 throws events, the shot putt: 7m 38cm PB, discus: 12m 39cm and a very impressive PB in the hammer: 36m 18cm, whilst newbie Elodia Boateng-Sackitey did the discus: 13m 56cm and the hammer B string: 24m 72cm.  In the javelin Millie Webster threw: 24m 50cm and another newbie: Cora O'Dwyer: 9m 07cm. The last events for the girls were the 4x100m (Shona, Charlotte, Tiya & Levania) who ran a very good and calculated race coming home 1st in a time of: 52.22s and the 4x300m (Zahara, Shona, Isabelle & Victoria) was also on good form witha good 2nd in: 3m 11.19s.

The team did well considering and with hopefully a stronger team next time on Saturday 18th May at Erith Leisure Centre there will be more to come, GO TEAM WOODFORD.
