Indoor Round-Up (Up-dated)

Several WGwEL athletes were in indoor action on Saturday, performances were led by Daniel Davies who won over 60mH at Lee Valley in 8.00 secs at the Inter-City Challenge meeting.

Daniel's 60mH Hurdles victory helped London North through to the Final, and they progressed along with London South and Bristol, with all three teams featuring WGwEL athletes. Also in the London North team was Stephane Aneto who placed 2nd in the women's triple jump with 12.60m, whilst representing London South, Tosin Oke was also 2nd, in the men's event with 15.78m, Nick Leavey was 4th in a tight 400m with 48.35 secs as was Ruth Brereton in the women's event with 58.40 secs. Competing for Bristol, Bath University based Christian North was 2nd in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.01m. HCA member Martin Lloyd cleared 2.12m in the high jump for 2nd.

Competing in the Welsh Championships at Cardiff Tom Phillips placed 7th over 1500m in 4m01.30 secs. In overseas action in Gainsville, Florida, in the US, Joice Maduaka was 4th in a 55m race with 7.08 secs, and at the Hustopecske Skakani, high jump meeting in the Czech Republic, Dalton Grant cleared 2.08m - just 2cm below the world indoor V40 record of which he is co-holder.

There was also news from Bath of the indoor meeting there, where jumper Kim Murray clocked 8.11 secs over 60m, and Maria Seager cleared a fine 3.90m in the pole vault to go 6th on the Uk rankings this season. Lucy Marshall took part in an early season hammer competition in Birmingham and showed she is over the injury that curtailed her 2008 outdoor season as she reached a useful 52.07m
