On a windy but dry morning some of our Under 11s ran for their districts after placing in the top five in their respective races earlier this year.
Molly Sherrin, running for West Essex, was crowned Year 6 champion after taking an early lead and gradually easing away over the undulating 1500 metres course. In the chasing pack, also running for West Essex, were Amana Oguntuga (6th) and Hannah Hardy (7th). Only a few yards separated 3rd to 8th.
In the Year 4 girls race Autumn Le Chevallier, running for Harlow District, had a great race for the silver medal and was closing down fast on the winner from Hockley. In the same race Daisy Sherrin, who was 67th last year, improved to a fine 31st this year.
In the Year 5 girls race Amber Hicks-Smith also ran well for a fine 15th, representing West Essex. Megan Allen, running for Harlow District, had a rough start but battled gamely for 81st.
The Year 3 girls race saw Merissa Hicks-Smith place a good 37th, while Jude Purser was 68th in the Year 4 boys race.
After setting a new Parkrun record the previous at Harlow 2k (the previous record was held by Jimmy Geller) Gregor Samson got out quickly in the Year 6 boys race. He probably started too fast as, despite trying his best, he ended up 24th.
Each field had around 130 runners and the competition was fierce. Our runners have learned a lot from today and they know that Essex is a tough county to compete in.
