Taking a break from warm weather training in California, World Junior 4x100m representative Junior Ejehu competed in an invitational meeting at Claremont, California on Saturday, recording a personal best over 400m as he placed second in 49.09 secs and was also 3rd over 200m in 21.76 secs (-0.5). Also in the US, Butler University based Sarah Bird was close to her personal best over 1500m as she recorded 4m46.45 secs at a meeting in Greencastle. Closer to home several WGwEL athletes were in action at the Havering and Lee valley Open meetings
At Havering, there were personal bests in the hammer from U/17 Harry Clarke with 45.09m, and from senior, Hollie Redman who reached 37.54m, as well as recording a useful discus mark of 39.30m. U/17 Rachel Dean was also in fine form, recording personal best marks both in the long jump with 4.94m and triple jump with 11.02m. Another to record two personal bests was Holly Pattie-Bellili, also an U/17, with 12.9 secs over 80mH and 9.76m in the triple jump. Rebecca Oatham recorded 65.3 secs over 400m.
At Lee Valley, Omololu Abiodun (U/17) recorded 11.78 secs and 23.7 secs over 100m and 200m, whilst Peter Kirabo (U/17) recorded 24.20 secs and 53.84 secs over 400m , both were new pb's. U/15 Georgina Ferrari recorded a fine 61.44 secs for 400m, whilst Kirsty McIntosh cleared 3.00m in the pole vault.
