Track and Field highlights over the last week were present in both veteran and Young Athlete categories. There was news from Italy as Keith Newton picked up a fine 4th place in the European Master's Indoor Championships, and a number of WGwEL's younger athletes started their season at Havering's graded meeting, with Woodford's performances being led by a 600m/300m double victory from Paul Scanlan.

Keith's 4th in the European Master's Championships M40 TJ took place last Wednesday, where his best mark of his five valid attempts was 13.20m. He was also 14th in the long jump with 5.90m.

At Havering on Sunday, Paul Scanlan recorded a fine 82.9 secs victory in the U/17 600m, which should indicate further improvement over 800m this season. He then also won over 300m in 36.2 secs, ahead of Woodford's Tom Larkin in 36.6 secs. Tom then went on to take the 150m in 17.4 secs.

There was also a double victory for Woodford in the 17 Girl's events as Georgina Ferrari won the 600m in 1m44.1 secs and the 300m in 44.2secs, and a further victory for Rachel Dean in the TJ with 10.67m.
