County CCs: Men 3rd in Essex, Women 5th

Our men went into the race hoping and aiming to defend the title which they won in 2008, but three of our key men underperformed, and freely acknowledged that that was the case.

We are tremendously saddened to have to report that Life Member and Past President Martin Nicholson passed away suddenly this morning. He was 68 last September. Martin joined WGAC in 1956 and has been a huge supporter of the club and of our sport since then.
For more than twenty years, Martin and his wife Sylvia have sponsored not only our club's teams hugely, but also many athletes on an individual basis. He was the catalyst behind the club's successes over those two decades.
Some of the club's members have known Martin since schooldays. He has been a true friend to many people. Details of the funeral arrangements will be published here when available.
Our thoughts are particularly with Sylvia and their children.
Dan Awde, Woodford's Olympic competitor in the Decathlon in Beijing, enjoyed his free tour of London from the Mansion House to Trafalgar Square when he took part in the Olympic Heroes parade on October 16th.
