Sam Watts makes World Youths final


Woodford's Sam Watts placed a very creditable 7th in the final of the 200m at the World Youths (U/18) Championships. Qualifying from the semi final as a fastest loser havinig recorded a personal best of 21.50 secs (+0.6),  Sam drew the tricky inside lane in the final, and altougher slower with 22.00 secs (-0.9), can be very pleased with his performances in making the final and recording a personal best time.

A number of WGwEL athletes were competing around Europe over the weekend, with Beijing Olympic finalists Sarah Claxton and Jeanette Kwakye amongst those in action.

UKWL - Match Two

WGwEL's women continued their push for an immediate return to the top flight, as they won the second fixture of the UK Women's League Division Two on Sunday at Lee Valley. They scored 218 points to Enfield's 182, and Blackheath's 177.5. They now lead the division with 16 points, from Blackheath on 12 and Enfield on 11. Seven field event victories which were led by a hammer double from Lucy Marshall and Sarah Smith and a triple jump double from Stephanie Aneto and Hannah Frankson, laid the foundations for a solid all round team performance.


BAL Premiership - Match Two

WGwEL finished 3rd in the second BAL Premiership fixture of the season at Sports City Manchester on Saturday. In an enthralling match which saw five teams as possible winners going into the final event the 4x400m, and in the end, just 24 points covering the first six teams, Woodford scored 294 points as Newham again ran out winners on 303, with Birchfield on 301. Newham now lead the table with 16 league points from Birchfield on 13.5 and Woodford on 12.5. Amongst a fine overall team performance, track performances were led by Tim Abeyie and Graham Hedman with a 200m double, and the field by Mark Dry with a hammer victory.
