The last day of the London City Runner Metropolitan CC League proved a day of mixed fortune for our senior teams on Saturday. The races at Perivale resulted in our women's slender league lead being overturned at the death by the reigning champions, Highgate, but our men regained the Division One title while the B team triumphed in Division Two. We had two individual third-placers, in Lauren Stewart and Bertie Powell.
The competing draw of both the National and County Indoor Championships and half-term skiing trips ensured that we were only ever likely to take a handful of young athletes to the last Met League fixture of the season over at Horsenden Hill and in the event, only five runners made the trip.
Competing at Birmingham's NIA in the England age group Indoor National Championships this weekend WGwEL performances were led by gold medal performances over 200m by Junior Ejehu, and over 400m by Paul Scanlan. There was a silver medal in the U/20 women's PV for Maria Seager, as well as some other fine performances.
At this weekend's Aviva European Trials and National Championships in Sheffield , the highlight from competing WGwEL athletes was Joice Maduaka's fifth national indoor title over 60m. Other medalists amongst several other Woodford athletes in action were Elaine O'Neil, Tosin Oke, Stephane Aneto and Tara Bird.
