Ronnie Sparke 2nd GB finisher at World Junior CC

ImageRonnie Sparke finished 83rd at the World Junior CC Championships today in Amman, Jordan. He was the 2nd GB finisher. His teammates were: Tom Farrell (Border AC, 58), James Wikinson (Leeds AC, 85) and Jonny Hay (Aldershot, 90). Nick Goolab and Simon Horsfield did not finish.

To give the result a little perspective, amidst the usual African dominance the first European was a Russian in 50th, though USA had 3 athletes in the top 30.

Congratulations to Ronnie, who has another 2 years in this age category.

CC and road round-up 23/03/09: updated

Dave Cox
The annual Orion 15 CC race through Epping Forest, as usual, attracted some of our locally-based members who prefer the longer stuff. Here it was Dave Cox, 55 years young, who excelled despite it being 25 years since he had last done the race. Elsewhere some of our seniors laid down markers with a view to selection for our road relay teams who have the South of England Championships in a fortnight's time.

Much of the Orion course was bone dry this year, with just minor patches of mud to emphasise how lucky the participants were. The race was won by veteran Allen Smalls of Colchester in 1 hour 32 minutes. England Masters CC international Dave Cox, off a relatively low maximum of 30 miles per week training, was 5th in 1:38.06, 44 places and 13 minutes ahead of the next M50! We also took the M60 prize in the shape of Roger Green, who was 93rd of 286 finishers, recording 1:58.50.

English Schools CC & Redbridge Mini-Marathon Trials

Georgie-Lou Sales was the club's stellar performer at the English Schools CC on Saturday while, the previous weekend, the club's young athletes achieved a high percentage of the places on offer for Redbridge's team for the Mini-Marathon held prior to the London Marathon.
