WGwEL's Callum Priestley picked up a bronze medal over 110mH on the 3rd day of the European U/23 Championships in Kaunas as he recorded a personal best of 13.63 secs into a headwind of 0.7 m/s. Callum was just 0.01 secs outside UKA's "B" standard for the Berlin World Championships and with a more favourable wind might have gone very close to the "A" standard of 13.55 secs. Mark Dry missed making the Hammer final by 37 cm, with his qualification effort of 65.05m
Elaine O'Neill placed a very creditable 5th in this afternoon's 100m Final in Kaunas, recording 11.61 secs (+0.2), just 0.02 outside of her pb. Callum Priestley placed 2nd in his semi-final of the 110mH in 13.70 secs (0.0), the third fastest qualifying time, and is drawn in lane four for tomorrow's final.
WGwEL athletes were in action today in Kaunas, Lithuania representing GB&NI at the European U/23 Championships. Elaine O'Neill, progressed though to the final of the 100m after placing 2nd in her heat with 11.69 secs (-0.8) and then placing 3rd in her semi-final with 11.65 secs (-1.2). Tara Bird placed 4th in her heat of the 800m recording 2m05.67 secs, but did not progress to the final.
UKA have today announced their final selections for the forthcoming European U/20 Championships. Joining Junior Ejehu (200m and 4x100) who was announced in the initial wave, Woodford athletes Eugene Ayanful (100m and 4x100m) and Maria Seager (PV) have been confirmed today. In addition, HCA member Rachel Giwa (4x100m) has also been named.
