Accustomed to beginning with heavy defeats due to clashes with other events, this year the Southern Men’s League team started the season very brightly with a narrow win at Ashton Playing Fields on Saturday. With tremendous support from family and friends urging on the home side, Woodford finished the day on 120.5 points, with a strong Enfield team second on 117 points and Ashford third on 110.5 points.

The day started with the Hammer and Fergus Harford throwing 38.22m (2nd) and Devon Douglas throwing 38.10m (1st B). Mini London Marathon 2009; Flora London Marathon

The club had superb representation at the Adidas Mini London Marathon on Sunday. The race incorporated the elite Regional race plus the London Boroughs race. Our athletes were extremely prominent in the teams representing our local boroughs of Waltham Forest and Redbridge. Our top performer, as so often since Christmas, was Ronnie Sparke, who won the very high-quality Regional Boys 15-17 race.

The Marathon itself yet again proved a killing field for dreams, though Ben Hope in particular reaped a positive result from his efforts.

Brenda Bray Trophy

Alex Wardle reports: "The final Brenda Bray results are now on the website. It was close at the top wasn’t it? I’m pleased for Linda, it the first time in years that she has managed to get through a season without illness or injury – a very deserving winner".
