SAL: Battling 2nd staves off drop threat

A weakened team battled to second in a very tight 2nd SAL match at Mile End, finishing just behind Kent AC and just ahead of a tie for third between Ashford and Dartford. The team had a slow start but came back to almost overhaul Kent at the end of the day despite having more gaps than any other team.

Results

In an early start to the day for the hammer throwers, Chiara Okereke impressed with 47.34. She followed up with success in the shot and B string javelin to be the top individual scorer for the team. Peter Clarke took the mens hammer in the male performance of the match (53.15), ahead of Fergus Harford, before taking the B shot behind Hugh Williams' final round winning put. Indeed Woodford won 11 of the 12 strings of heavy throws, with the discus double of Precious Hamilton and Abigail Allen matched by Christopher Linque and Devon Douglas in the final event to finish, but this was not quite enough to take overall victory.
