Four Woodford athletes represented their counties at the CAU Inter County Championships at Prestwold Hall, Loughborough on 11th March. The Inter-County Championships, also the last round of the UK Cross Challenge, is one of the highlights of the winter season and with counties able to select their top athletes, high class fields were on show.

Kai Boggon was our only young athlete present following the late injury withdrawals of team mates Joe Geller and Ben Sloan. Kai’s run in the U15B event was a highly presentable outing and he finished 57th in the field of 294 runners, a minute and a half down on Yorkshire’s winner, Josh Dickinson.
Our other three representatives ran in the 12km Senior Men's event; Angus Holford was the third Essex finisher in a depleted team of four, picking up 125th place which he felt was a fair return; our winter captain Darren Southcott followed 42 seconds behind 161st with Simon Beedell (running for Buckinghamshire) 186th and a further 39 seconds back. The race was won by an impressive an Andy Vernon (Hampshire) with teammate Alex Teuten over 20 seconds behind.
After a succession of years at Wollaton Park (Nottingham) and then Cofton Park (Birmingham), it was a refreshing change for the Inter Counties to visit Prestwold Hall. The race was set in rolling parkland and fields around the 18th century house with a challenging mix of terrain and surface; good for racing and good for spectating.
