2018-19 Met League race 4: Senior Women

DIVISION 2 WIN PUTS PROMOTION IN SIGHT FOR SENIOR WOMEN

A comfortable second division win for our senior women at Scrubs on Saturday cemented their position in second place by taking them 100 points clear of the cluster of clubs chasing VPH ‘B’ for the top spot and promotion to the premier division.

After many seasons of incompletion, and in a League record women’s field of 293, we turned out a fourth successive 'plus-size squad' of the winter as a svelte septet tackled two laps of the unusually dry, pancake flat, course.

2018-19 Met League race 4: Young Athletes

A tremendous turnout for our last but one Met League fixture, at Wormwood Scrubs, saw our young athletes sail into a 17 point lead in the Howard Williams Trophy and retain healthy leads in five of the six age catorgories. 53 young athletes toed the line across the six races, with us achieving three winners and a second spot too. However our success is all about supporting the club in these fixtures, whereever you may finish.

The weather overcast was dry once again but with a keen westerly wind blowing across the course which was, for the most part, dry underfoot. This obviously suited our track runners.

A very cold and overcast day greeted our four Under 17 runners for their first race of the year.

The race was a combined affair but injury had ruled out two of our runners in the Men's race. It was a highly competitive race over 5k with just over a minute covering the first fifteen runners. Kai Boggon, Thomas Adolphus and Rhys Edwards gave their all with 13th, 14th and 18th places. As bottom Year runners, Kai was 3rd home and Rhys 6th. Thomas had a much improved run from last year.

In the Girls race over the same distance, Wren McLean-Jackson came through strongly in the final stages to claim a good 8th place which may give her selection to run for Essex in the CAU XC Champs in March.
