A number of Woodford athletes were competing for their universities at Bedford over the bank holiday weekend at the British Universities Championships (BUCS).  Several good performances were led by a win from Youcef Zatat and two 2nd places from Che Richards and Anna Nelson, there was also news of Woodford athletes competing in the US.

 

Youcef Zatat’s win at the BUCS came in the shot with a distance of 17.23m. Hugh Williams reached 11.64m in qualifying and also reached 31.77m in the hammer. Edinburgh University student, Che Richards was 2nd in the long jump with 7.63m w (+3.7), with Sam Khogali 9th with 6.93m w (+3.9) after qualifying with 7.14m w. Another Edinburgh student, Anna Nelson was also 2nd in the 400mH with a personal best of 60.70 secs, having recorded a then personal best in qualifying of 60.93 secs. Anna Clark progressed to the final of the 800m where she placed 5th with 2m12.60 secs, a little slower than her 2m12.19 secs semi-final time. Over 1500m, Chloe Bradley also made the final where she was 9th with 4m34.14 secs having qualified with 4m33.23 secs from her semi-final. In the heats Alicia McArdell recorded 5m17.61 secs. In the field, James Bongart was 6th in the javelin with 58.28m having qualified with 59.64m, whilst in the high jump, Will Grimsey was also 6th with 2.00m.

 

At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, IA in the US, Olympic finalist Cindy Ofili was 6th over 100mH in a high standard race with 12.92 secs (+1.0), ahead of sister Tiffany Porter who placed 8th with 13.20 secs (+1.0). At Lawrenece, Kansas, Hollie Pattie-Belleli also raced over 100mH winning the Rock Chalk Clasisc with 13.72 secs (+2.0), and also placing 5th in the long jump with 5.52m w (+3.9)
